It's pretty irrelevant.
Seller made an error, buyer suffered no loss.
If he is self employed he lost time, which is money.

So if there is a firm contract and then a breach....

Good luck with that one wink
That's why you should never worry about wasting a salesmans time with working out deals, test drives etc and then buying the car from a broker.

I didn't say they should!! I said that they would rather do even that before selling at car at a loss like that

Used. 14 plate Focus ST.
On that car I'd check what brokers quote on a new one, if Ford are still offering a finance contribution it may work out the same or cheaper for brand new.

they may have been unable to reduce the rate if his credit profile wasn't tip top

We will never know because the Salesman never tried, or if he did his Sales Manager wasn't prepared to reduce his margin to overcome the ste service.

If the salesman can't quantify the price differential between buying from them and buying from a broker, you should buy from a broker and you shouldn't worry.
AFAIK you don't actually buy from the broker.

I have, supplied by a dealer 30 miles away. I doubt they would have let me have the car for less than what the broker quoted me.
