I'm partially to be blamed here for not checking but I've bought a used car from main dealer 3 months ago. It was on a private plate but when I collected it the plate was the new plate.

I've managed to insure the car fine and it's showing on MID however today when I was discussing about px I've found out my car doesn't exist on DVLA records! I've called the supplying dealership and he is a bit nervous, asked me not to call DVLA and give him few minutes to speak to his managers.

I've checked and I can't seem to find the V5 anywhere in my house and what's worrying is that last month another colleague at work who bought car from dealership has same problem! She found out that her car was on wrong reg so need to pay to change insurance details, get new plates made and also DVLA to reissue V5.

I'm really worried now ... what should I do next?

Have you had a V5C for it? Have you got the V5C/2 green slip? Is it taxed?

Either way, you need to fill in a V62.

Thanks for the quick response.

It came with the balance of tax but I've bought it back in September before rule change.

I don't have any slips at all. From my last conversation with dealership I was told they can't even be sure they've sent the V5 or had the V5 in the first place! Although the manager I dealt with was off but he was very reassuring when we went through the paper works. I remembered him saying that he will provide the envelopes and stamps to send my V5 bit and he will send theirs same day.

Never had this problem before even when buying from non main dealers. This is a very big dealership too.

Do I need to give DVLA a call or just fill in the form?

So you've got a tax disc - what reg is on it?

Did you get given the V5C/2 green slip? (If not, why did you take the car without it...?)

If you've got the V5C/2, then the V62 is free.
If not, then it's payable - but I'd be pushing for them to pay the £25, since it sounds like it's entirely their cock-up.

Same as on reg

No...again my bad for trusting him. He took out an envelope with stamp and said he'll sort out my bit. When I asked about mine he said that's find he will sort it all out too.

Well I was told I'll get reimbursed so I do suspect it's their cock up. As I've said my colleague was in almost the same predicament and even though was told she'll get reimbursed it took as while of chasing to actually get her money as everyone just passed the buck.
