Just a quick question. I dropped my vehicle off at a garage that had been recommended to me for them to carry our a quote for an insurance company. Now while a vehicle has been handed over to a garage is it their responsibility to ensure it is safe etc? Why I am asking, once Insurance issue had been sorted I was told to go and collect my car. Picked up keys from garage and was told car was parked outside. Couldn't find it. To cut a long story short, local council had lifted it because they needed to carry out gutter repairs. They dumped it in another street and it took me over three hours to locate the car. Surely the garage should have a duty of care over cars that are trusted to them, because they just didn't seem to care!

After the car was parked up by the garage and prior to it being lifted by the council, was it parked on the road in a legal manner ie not on double yellows or in a loading bay etc? If so, I don't think there's much you can blame the garage for. The same scenario could have arisen if you decided to park your car on the street and go to the shop.

The fact that you car was lifted and moved by the council to fix a gutter is pretty out of the ordinary so I doubt you could possibly blame the garage for that.

In any event other than taking three hours to locate your car, was there any damage to it? If not, suck it up and get on with life.
