I had one of these calls, the conversation went:

Mobile phone rings (unknown number) and I pick it up:

Me: "Hello!"
Caller: "Hello! - I'm calling as a follow-up to an accident that the owner of this number has been involved in!"
"Sorry, who do you want to talk to?"
"Um - the owner of this number?"
"So who's been in inloved in an accident?"
"Um - I don't actually have the name on file at the moment but it was the owner of this number!"
"You must have a name from the accident details, surely?"
"No I'm afraid I don't have that information, all I know is that it was the owner of this number"
"Well, I'm the owner of this number but I don't recall having an accident recently!
"Ah - well our records show that you were involved in an accident and we're chasing up on the details!"
"Really? - I don't have any recollection of having an accident recently! - Was it a serious accident?"
"Um - I don't have all have all of the details of the accident at the moment, that's why we're chasing up for the details!"
"Oh My God! - I must have amnesia from the accident!"
"Well I don't have any details of any injuries received. If you could give Me your details then we can start to make the required report"
"Hello!"
"Er - Hello?"
"Can I help you?"
"Er yes, we were discussing the details of the accident?"
"Who's been in an accident?
"Um - the owner of this number?"
"Well, I'm the owner of this number but I don't recall having an accident recently!"
"If I could just get your details?"
"Oh My God! - I must have amnesia from the accident!"
"If I could get your details?"
"Hello! - Can I help you?"

At this point they hung up on Me! - Is that any way to treat an accident victim with amnesia? - Disgraceful! hehe

This is cold calling. People buy this data from the insurance company, comparison websites etc.

Think about the data your entering, and think about the little box at the bottom with the legal bit about selling your data or being contacted by third parties.

Personal data is more valuable than credit cards nowadays.
As I said at the beginning it's a fleet car so none of those things. It's a fleet car so nothing links me to the car and the incident, that's how I know someone has passed on my details without consent.

As said by others there is no link, it's a cold call and you just happen to have had an accident recently, which is what they are hoping for, the link is being made by you. I get loads of these calls and I have not had an accident for 20 years.
