I've just been to a garden centre and paid £75 for a tree, however I've noticed that it's had its root cut off. I've called the garden centre and they are saying I shouldn't try to plant it, that I should keep it indoors and it's only supposed to last until just after Christmas.

This doesn't seem right and I cannot help but feel I'm being had over. Any legal experts able to advise on this please?

That's why they're called 'Christmas trees'.

An expensive tree that's only meant to last until just after Xmas, keep it indoors... Can we guess what kind of tree it is?

Was it sold as a cut tree, or as a tree with root stock?

just take it back in 14 days for a full refund, and a payment for your travel expenses and inconvenience
about £500 should do it, a decent lawyer will get you £1k

I feel that every year - sixty quid this year's one was. And we always end up arguing about which one to get.

The guy sells them from a field behind his absolutely immense house.

I think the place that lumbered you with it is definitely breaking the law. Yew should call the copse - perhaps even Special Branch.

Every year since I remember, just before I go to bed on Christmas Eve, I end up getting a bit pissed and leaving a carrot and a half glass of whiskey on the table by the sofa.

Low and behold, every Christmas morning, the carrot is half eaten and the whiskey is gone.

I suspect it's a guy I've heard about who's been doing the same to other people on my street.

Is this harassment and can I take him to court to get my whiskey back?

I don't know, but I would rinse your kettle out thoroughly before use.

Mine is still in the attic, I couldn't be arsed to get it out and clip it together this year - I haven't checked it for roots though, should I?

Sometimes it happens that someone buys something without understanding exactly what it is they've bought. If you aren't happy with it, and thought it was going to be a proper tree, then take it back and get your money back.
