Ah, so you are perverse then!

Is there something going wrong at your end, are you bored already with your holiday?

I'm off jogging now, but will take a horn with me to warn slower joggers of my imminent overtaking manoeuvre....wouldn't want to frighten them or be at the mercy of their litigious raptures.

Exercise is good for the mind, endorphins and all that.

You should try it, get you away from trolling for a few minutes.
I'm very smiley and thank you for your advice.

If I might remind you of your opening post and the question you posed. It may be that you disagree with some of the answers, however that's the risk when you ask a question.

I get the impression from your posts that your OP was rhetorical and what you wanted to hear was that all those plebs who flash at you as you near-miss are in the wrong. I hope that analysis is wrong.

What the hell?

you asked a question, which by your own statement had incurred a lengthy 'we don't know' debate with at least one trafpol; and you say 'it certainly gets people talking'...

An (sounding) informed poster made some clear and useful points about what might affect the determination of any court case in said situation and you go off on one about being perverse and trolling. Again I say...what the hell??

You can't honestly tell me you dont get the use of 'you' as a general term? maybe he should have written 'one' - but then he'd have sounded like a posh tool for no reason.

Here we go again, OP makes an interesting point about driving only to be jumped on by the self-righteous do-gooders, the forum fighters.

What the hell is wrong with you lot?

OP, I agree with you and I am quite sure most reasonable minded people would too.

The idiots who in essence think you can only safely overtake on a runway with no oncoming jets are in the minority thankfully.
As are, thankfully, those who think it's ok to say "what the hell, time for one more" whilst overtaking into oncoming traffic, and think that it can't be dangerous if there wasn't an accident.

Who do you know who thinks it's OK to do that?

I've never met anyone with that view.

You should perhaps read more carefully the original post, rather than trying to read into a scenario and then putting two and two together, making five, telling me what I think or believe.

The people who think its OK to do that are the rhetorical people discussing the scenario in your original post.

Perhaps YOU should read my post more carefully before putting two and two together, making five, and assuming I am talking about you.

there's a reasonable proportion of drivers who seem to flash their lights when they see a perfectly safely executed over take, and presumably believe it was ludicrously dangerous, so for an over take where even the driver thought it was a bit too close to for comfort, the average witness would probably declare it suicidal.
which is why there is a 'reasonable practitioner' test , rather than ' i can wheel out someone who thinks it;s dangerous ' test ( i.e. the difference between Bolam and bolitho judgements in healthcare related stuff )

You made several posts.
I wasn't sure whether he was agreeing with not being sure what the situation is with the law in respect of unsafe overtakes, getting frustrated by others on the road, or not caring what others think about his driving.

I don't see any as something to be proud to identify with......unless there is something else.

I wasn't actually talking about myself.

Are you suggesting that a driver should not overtake a Honda Jazz in case it gives its driver a fright?

Oh dear!
What I am suggesting is that one consideration you should always have, is how your driving will be perceived by others (irrespective of whether you believe your driving is legal). If you know or suspect you driving is going to shock or upset others (even if legal), you are putting yourself at risk of adverse witness statements in the event of an incident.

Aside from the fact that decency includes consideration for other people, alienating other road users may bite you later if you are at the mercy of witness statements they give to the Police.
The incident doesn't even have to occur at that point. It might be further up the road. As 10PS found out. Every PHer should be aware of what happened to him. There is also the danger of making inappropriate comments on car forums. IIRC those were an aggravating factor which the CPS dredged up and contributed to the sentence he received.

Why do you keep referring to "You"?

I understand what you are saying, but don't think any of us need adjust perfectly safe and legal driving practices to appease people who often have no clue what they're doing and who in fact cause countless accidents and fatalities up and down the country.

The horse box convoy crew is a case in point, with vehicles behind the lead vehicle driving in such a way as to slow down and frustrate legal drivers behind them, goading them into long overtake manoeuvres to get by and move on safely.

As for me, I give these fools a wide bearth and completely ignore their ignorant flashes.

Driver training for these idiots, especially in the business of considerate driving, is what's really required.

hoss box convoy is something that happens, hoss boxes are a menace at the hobbyist level ( as at least the banger racers and posher motorsport typestend to keep their vehicles in slightly better nick - you can also blame the hoos box crowd for why the UK didn;t fight the loss of grandfather rights to B+E and C1 - although the caravanners didn;t help with B+E dsue to t trail of match wood across the strategic routes netowrk every saturday from easter to october )

A very sobering read indeed, but I'm not sure how it relates to the original post.

I'm not advocating wild or dangerous driving and don't know anyone who does.

This is perhaps evidenced by my clean licence and my non-accident driving history of 31 years.

I will state again: this post posed an interesting question about a fairly common scenario that I think most drivers have witnessed/been involved in/ can relate to.

Some of you seem to be adding your own spin to it, forming wrong conclusions.

This is the PH way I guess, so we'd best stop here.
