Does anyone know if it is ok (either legally or on safety grounds) to run armoured cable up a tree and fix a security floodlight to the tree.
A neighbour has seen fit to do this to a tree on my side of the fence!
i think your questions have been answered but he trespassed, assuming it is deffo the case the whole trunk is on your side of the fence. If the tree is TPOd or in a conservation area then there may be issues with past pruning works and the current nailing the cable and other bits and bobs to the tree, always worth a check before taking action.

I am no electrician but could you take a spur off his cable on your tree to power most of the electricity for your house.I am sure you would be happy with this arrangement free electricity and he may take the security light down when his bill doubles.

As your neighbour seams a bit of a sap and barking up the wrong tree I would leaf the cable alone or if you are not happy call special branch.
This!
yes

Free power in your garden.

In reality I'd take the light off your tree & drop it in his garden, then bill him for a tree surgeon checking the screws haven't damaged the tree - after all copper? nails are a way of killing trees.

Get a stencil of something amusing and childish and stick it on the lamp, so that when it comes on it shines a large picture on his property.

Set up a device that powers a swinging object in front of the PIR. Alternatively, if you can find a swap for the unit, then put in a constant light in place of the current unit.

Or... move on, life is too short. Or even better, defuse the situation, pop round with a bottle of wine, wish him a happy new year and ask if you can start afresh?

All that jazz

Definitely do this! It would be hilarious. I am sure an electrician could do this for you even with it live. It'd be well worth it just for the amusement factor if nothing else. laugh

[quote=swisstoni] We aren't exactly big mates due to previous tree-related issues so a face-to-face would probably not end on a positive note.

So he knows about land boundaries, trees hanging over ect and he still goes and hangs a power cable over your land and on your tree.

I think he needs to learn a lesson.

Will you be getting any benefit from the light. Is it partly protecting your garden/property as well. If so you are getting this for free.

I think you guys are putting a lot of faith in a cable that is most likely fed from a 1mm 6A lighting circuit!

Hammer frozen sausages into the light, the tree and your neighbour in that order.

Email sent giving reasonable time to remove. Not expecting much TBH.

I have been thinking this over and much as I'd like to make a noose out of the cable and hang him from the tree, illuminated by his own light, I'm afraid life isn't really like that.
I'm going to let him keep his poxy cablr and poxy light and let him light up his poxy driveway. (I can't even see it).

One day he'll need cooperation from me about something and I'll just point at the light and say he had his chance.
