Sounds like a good reason to stop dead, rather than aim for a non-existant gap and hope.
Don't be a bus wker, he said he didn't stop as he wasn't expecting it to suddenly come onto his side and hit him.
If he thought there was any chance of that he would have stopped.
He didn't say it suddenly moved onto his side of the road did he?
He said he suddenly realised it was tighter than he thought.

I'm not a native english speaker so maybe my message didn't get across. I didn't expect it was going to hit me until it was too late - I wasn't speeding - was driving 30mph and I drive that road every day so I know how narrow it is. It feels like my words are being analysed and re-analysed to find the inconsistency and prove my fault.

That's what you should expect if you're asking about blame. People are reliant on the words you use.

For example, if you know the road is narrow and you use it daily, should you have expected wide vehicles to encroach your lane (I am not prejudging, merely asking)?

I had a bus driver deliberately hit my car when I was stuck in traffic, blocking his turn because I was "in his way". There were witnesses and the bus company eventually admitted liability but never did pay the entire repair bill - held back an amount that, I was advised by my ins. co. 'solicitors' was not worth chasing, they also delayed at every opportunity.

You would think a large, national bus company (name means arrive in a Latin language) would have the decency to do the right thing but they were slimier than a slimy thing in a pool of slime and I wouldn't piss on their bus if was on fire... furious

Good luck with them.

I've passed buses there on number of occassions in the past and never before collided with one.

My parked car was hit by an arrive bus some years ago, driver nearly drove off but stopped at junction and had to let me on to get details. This consisted of a phone number of the depot manager, within 24hours a courtesy car arrived and my own was removed and repaired(verywell for a SOTW Volvo) with a new wing! I was never asked for any details other than time and location and my address and my own insurance told me to leave it to the bus company.

I too drive that road on a daily basis. I do it in a clio and have had quite a few close calls with buses and lorries etc...

However, I stick to the 20 mph speed limit and it gives me plenty of time to react.

The Latin for Arrive bus company hit a school run mum outside our school, then three of her mates.

Police charged him with driving without due care.

Only one of us seems to be letting the types of vehicle determine the fault. And it ain't me.

OP, if it's a regular bus route, get down there with a camera and take a few photos (of buses!) and run a tape measure across the road

In civil law, if you can get out of the way of a larger vehicle (even if it's on your side of the central white line) then that is what you have to do http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Man-denied-compens... Conversely, if you are as far over as you reasonably can be, then surely the liability sits with the bus driver and the bus company?

As well as moving over, you can also stop.

As well as moving over you can also stop. Were you stationary when the bus collided with you?

The bus company is only acting on the word of one person..the driver of the bus.

A fault crash on his part could mean disciplinary action or even the sack. Of course he's going to be blaming you, whether he's telling a pack of lies or not. But unless you have proof then the company will support their driver.

Going to some head of department isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference. As I said they will take the word of their driver over a third party.Unless you have proof the bus was over the centre line then you are wasting your time.

Its 30mph speed limit where I had an incident, 20mph is much further for a short distance and on the bend. Where bus hit me it was pretty much on the straight road.
So good try but no.
