Vehicle with no road tax or SORN

I'm going to view a car today which has been off the road for nearly a year. The owner didn't SORN it. If I bought it could I be liable for unpaid tax? Would there be any problems in buying tax for the car, assuming of course valid insurance and MOT?

Nope, no problem for you. Entirely the previous keeper's problem.

Buy it, V890 SORN it asap, or wait for the V5C to come through then SORN it with that, then tax it as soon as it's MOTd.
