We purchased a 3 year old jeep compass from the jeep main dealer.
24k miles & supposedly Full jeep history (salesman told us he appraised the car & had seen the service booked which was fully stamped from that dealership) booked had been misplaced so I couldn't check it. Also told us it was 1 owner, actually 2 owners.
Only from found out it had no history when I asked the service desk about it. Log book then turns up with 2 owners on it.
As expected they're dicking about now. They then call me to say they've got the service history confirmed by a local garage who the previous owner used but as expected there is no official record of it as it was done as a cash in hand job!!
It my wife's car & is the most we've ever paid for a car.
i told them I don't want the car anymore as I wouldn't of bought it knowing it had no history.
Car is back in the garage this week as its developed a knocking noise.
What would you do in my situation?

Cheers

I'd try punting this in SP&L , indeed, mods might look at moving there,as it's more of incorrect description etc.

Money back.

I got really pissed off with a dealer who told me a used car I had test driven had a FSH.....it did, right up 2.5 years ago.

The old lost service book trick. Tell them you want a refund or a like for like car to replace it, and get Jeep UK involved if need be.

How long have you had it?

I assume as a main dealer approved car it needs to have Jeep Service for the warranty etc, so I think they are snookered. Stand your ground.

Picked the car up at the beginning of December.

My thoughts since it became apparent the car had no history have been either money back or replacement car.
Will be contacting Jeep uk when the open this morning.

I'm just intruiged. Beginning of December to now is a long time to find out it doesn't have the service history. Didn't you see the number of owners from the V5 when you bought the car? Will the salesman say that he told you 1 previous owner as it says on the V5 meaning two in total?

Hopefully the lack of service history argument will hold some sway, but I still think it's a long time to have had the car to go back with a strong argument.

Hope it works out for you.

He wont have had the V5 for 3 weeks min until the DVLA sent it to him, and likewise they were playing the "lost" service book trick.

Somthing that a large BMW dealer who ended up paying me compensation.

OP. Is car still in the garage? If so this is good; leave it there. Take any and all remaining paperwork, spare keys etc with a covering letter saying that you are rejecting the car due to it being misrepreseted.

Explain that as it has no Jeep Service history the warranty doesnt stand, and that ot breaks their own guidelines for an approved used car. Explain also you were told it was a 1 owner car, and it was actually 2. Explain you will get JEEP Uk involved as well as trading standards.

Do this as a matter of urgency; the closer you are to thir ow 30day/1000mile swap offer the better. Look for similar cars in th group that you would accept for replacement.

In fact - bang the spec/age/miles/extras on here and we can help you find a replacement car.

I had similar to you OP. Bought a car, told full history with all reciepts, 2 owners. The paperwork was on it's way over from the other dealer they bought it off. The wheels were to be refurbed too

I stupidly collected the car without the paperwork, being told it'd be forwarded when it arrived.

I battled for months and months with them, as their promises were not carried out. It took 5 months to get photocopies of reciepts and a replacement book, and a cheque for £200.

Disgusted, but lesson learnt. Ensure everything is done before driving off, or walk away.

I had the same trick pulled on me by Arnold Clark Rover in Glasgow nearly twenty years ago. In the end, had to just suck it up and live with it. I hope you have better luck than I did, as they pretty much just laughed and told me to prove that they weren't honest about the car during the sales patter.

Guess how many cars anyone in my family or I have bought from that group since? Hint, it's less than one.
