So...he actually paid up in full via BACS this morning from his personal account with initials of him and his wife i presume. I don't think it's full sunk in yet.

Yes, that's right. Transactions can be reversed in some circumstances.

Oh, you didn't mean it like that.... smile You're probably OK though.

Woohoo! If he claims he paid this morning, and it's already showing up in your account, then it went through as a "Faster Payment". In which case I *think* you're home and dry.

Best wait a day or so before you splurge it though....

Just check with the bank who will tell you if the funds have cleared or not. If they have you are indeed home and dry.

One of the advantages of internet banking is that you can easily check whether funds have cleared or not.

Exactly - if they say they are available to you, then they are cleared and so are you smile

THIS.

It won't provide certainty of funds, but if there is a 'banking error' (sic) and they try and claw it back out of your account, they won't be able to and it'll have to go into some form of discussion...

Well, it's not like the notes are individually numbered...

Would you really trust your bank not to take it anyway and leave you nursing a humungous overdraft?

Yeah - don't worry about all your direct debits and the fact that the bank will still chase you for the debt while putting through endlesss "unauthorised borrowing" charges. rolleyes

Fortunately the bank has no idea where you live and can't ruin your credit rating.
Just empty the account and throw any subsequent correspondence in the bin. Make sure you have your fingers in your ears while singing "LALALALALALAL!" as loud as you can.

Worth a Google, but I'm sure there are procedures / rules in place governing return of fraudulent monies from the receiving account. That wasn't just a random rash suggestion...

All worked out in the end then

Money transferred from the account of the person who owed you money, is as safe as anything
and even if it wasn't no point trying to hide it in another account, in a case where money can get reclaimed, eg a stolen cheque, it doesn't stop it, it just ends up making you massively overdrawn when it happens.

Congratulations OP - hopefully out of the woods. I think there's a very good chance that the dealer has seen this thread!
