I can get my insurance for around £1500 cheaper by having the above installed...
Anyone had this before? Apparently you only have it installed for 3 months which I presume means you take it out and have 9 months insurance without it,
However I'm wondering if you speed etc will they fine you like I Heared they used to do years ago? Or will it just mean you don't get a cheap renewal the next year?...
Also if I do speed, Bell cant disclose the information of me speeding to anyone?...

If you speed they a lot or high speeds like more than 10mph over the limit they may increase you premium.

Never got involved with them a friend did and his premium went up for driving certain times of the day.

Depends what your driving is like. Its possible if you are speeding or have an accident the data has been used against some people.

You'd be SAVING £1500? How much is it without that?

Not seen one that you only have for 3 months, bit odd. I assume they will look at you're driving and expect it to carry on the same way. It says no curfews so thats all good.

I'm fairly sure they dont share the data with anyone else, maybe the police if there was an accident and they were requested to but not willy nilly.

Look at the policy booklet and that will explain it.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick though OP. I think the premium is reviewed every 3 months and will go up, down or stay the same based on how your driving sits within the risk ratings.

The police won't be told if you're speeding, Bell won't share the data with anyone else either.

We've just done more or less the same thread. I wonder if we'll get the same wibble on this one?

I would quite happily have a box if it saved me £1500.

Although that would mean my insurer paying me a fair chunk hehe

Quite. I'd forgotten how high some people's insurance is.

According to what they say it wont go up...
It'll only go down at the end of the year you will get a discount...

Now I know you've got it wrong. What if you have several crashes this policy year? What if you get loads of points or banned? What if the market just hardens in general and prices rise across the board?

fk that.

Not a chance of having a funny box thing installed in my car for the sake of £1,500.

For £1500, the claims manager could live in the boot!

Given how shockingly bad some people's driving is I'm not surprised they'd be prepared to pay £1500 more rather than have a box installed.

There is generally a fee to have the box removed also. So take £100-200 from that saving straight away

Except that all the people who:

Drive at 40mph in NSL areas,
Sit in the middle lane on empty motorways,
Never indicate on roundabouts,
Use the wrong lanes on roundabouts,
Take 5 - 10 seconds to pull away after the lights turn green,
Pull away using 5% throttle and take 20 seconds to get up to 30 mph,
etc etc

...will still all get perfect scores according to the black box and save money on their insurance.

I am willing to bet that you have misunderstood and that they do not require the box to be fitted for only 3 months. Unless the policy duration is 3 mths...

How can it go up every 3 months when you have already paid your annual premium?
Would anybody be stupid enough to give them direct debit details...

I am intrigued as to how the system knows when you are speeding. Fierce acceleration or cornering, that's easy, but speeding? How do they keep the GPS software completely up to date, including motorway roadworks speed limits, and does it always limit you to 70 automatically?

Part of my question is genuine interest, as i have nephews aged between 17 and 21 who have asked their parents to remortgage to pay the insurance premiums.
And part is just amusement, as I am taking my (road going) 5 litre TVR on a track day tomorrow and might exceed 70 if the Lincolnshire weather plays ball.

Not that I have or would have a black box fitted, but I actually drive my daily like the grand dad I am - steady, anticipating, not exceeding the speed limits.
Boringly, thanks to the traffic and the ever-present love of elephant racing amongst the 14-wheeled wkers on our 2-lane motorways and A roads, I get to my destination relaxed and at the same time as the frantic Audi, Merc and BMW drivers I see riding the bumper of the car in front, trying to do 90, with their jackets hung up in the back of the car.

But you or I choosing not to have a black box fitted and saving £1500 won't actually fix any of those issues, will it?
