Thats an actual joke.
I know it wouldnt help the situation and i dont suggest you do this but i would engage ahole mode.
EDIT: i still cant quite grasp the fact he stormed into your home and attempted to beat you and has been released. The mind boggles. Have you thought of facebooking the constabulary? Making it public that they have took no action. Id imagine a few newspapers would like the story especially re his job. Not ideal as its public but might make them re think and his employer too.

How come he wasn't charged ?
He assaulted you in your house broke in and well he wasnt charged something wrong here and you need to speak with the police - and those that came to the house. was he arrested at the scene ?
this is the moment that you have waited on and you need to sieze it and ensure that it is carried through....
Was he plausible at the station did he make out you were the issue ? You see he could be saying your causing trouble with seeing his kids - mistreating them etc. You cant let this wash away.
It will go on and now that he has pushed the line he will keep pushing it testing the water so to speak. Not a good situation to be frank and if you do nothing its worse than before - he got in the house - how did he manage that ?
He attacked you and no charges brought ? How come.

I can't believe the police aren't pressing charges against him?
Something needs doing.
As much as I like to think it wouldn't happen again, I'd keep something that could be used as a weapon if he barges into your house again. One day he may seriously harm you or your missus and her children, seriously.

left message for officer on voicemail. I have no idea how or why this is been brushed off. My only assumption is that he has said I hit him maybe? Dont know. Have submitted ipcc complaint
I'm unclear what you hope to achieve by involving the IPCC at this stage. You don't appear to have escalated matters within the constabulary concerned (i.e. a formal complaint at Inspector level). Therefore the IPCC won't be remotely interested. They will simply bounce it back for local resolution.pork911 said:

Call or email your MP too. I had a situation some years ago where my car was broken into at night. A neighbour woke me and we actually managed to apprehend 2 of the 3 verminous creatures who had done it. The police came and arrested them and subsequently got the 3rd member. They had broken into 16 cars, all BMW's, that night and were clearly "professional". A few days later I received a letter telling me that they had been cautioned. I was astonished and wrote to my MP (Tony Baldry) who replied saying he was as astonished as me and was writing to the Chief Constable. The upshot was that I got a letter from the CC saying it had been an error and they all got charged and convicted.
