Yes people without a car or licence, e.g. young people, old people, sick people, poor people, disabled people should stay at home where they belong out of sight. wink
And just why do you think the road network should be designed around these people giving them priority over the rest of us ?

Are they just too important to join on with the rest ?

I'm with OP - confusing, especially from a distance.

They need a red-light camera on the bus lane to catch buses pulling into RH lane if BL light is red.
I would imagine the bus lane light changes to green fairly promptly on the approach of a bus!

If not, a bus moving to the RH lane to take advantage of a green light is perfectly legal.
Here is another, but better-signed, example:

I have driven classic buses down this road (in Lincoln) many a time. This stop is not one I need to use, so, rather than be delayed by the traffic light, I always go for the chicane with the other traffic!

A traffic island is what makes that ok and the op's one a bit screwy.

The junction from the OP is like nothing I've ever seen. I can imagine cars stopping and starting all over it, wondering whether they should proceed or not.

yes

Except that the island should not show a "Keep right" arrow. That makes it unlawful for the bus to pass to the left of it.

Here's a similar setup in Stirling. Not the best view, but the bus bay has a traffic light at its exit.

On the third tab of the screen shot - 'how to figure out how...'

What do you need to know? : )

Point you've missed is buses are usually 90% empty so your demographic is massively over represented. Have a look for yourself next time, you'll be amazed. Please don't try to defend a real world problem with a fantasyland argument

Real world problem? I absolutely couldn't tell you the last time I was held up by a bus, but when I remember it was probably a school bus and stuffed with kids. I'll let you know when I remember and no I don't have alzheimer's. smile

That is a weird junction. OP, as you're fairly new to driving, the way to tell in that scenario who goes/stops when one of those lights turns green or amber/red is down to if there's a solid white line across the lane. There's a solid white line in the bus lane at the second light but not in the lane you were in where the second light is in the picture.

Useful description thumbup Still room for confusion at the far side of the junction though.

Thanks for the replies, I've only been driving day to day in just under a year so constantly learning and making sure what I'm doing is right.
Good on you beer
It's a daft junction, I'd probably need a double take.

I saw something similar, cant remember where but the bus just pulled out into the right lane to go through the lights on green and then back into the bus lane after the junction. Leftist thinking at its best.
They've done the same in Belfast city centre - bus lanes through all the busiest routes. Buses just pull across 3 lanes of traffic to use the normal lanes if they get a red, often blocking the entire road.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate the helpfulness of (most) members and I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking the junction could be confusing.
