So the only reason you originally wanted to sell it was that the plate reminded you of reality...? Got it.
Yes thats correct and just to clarify:

At a DVLA auction probably about 75% of the plates sell including similar plates to mine for £2600 plus VAT and assignment fee.The plate I bought did not sell at auction and was included in a list of numbers that also did not reach their reserve and was sent to me by a friend that works for the DVLA.I dont think the list was sent to anyone else.

I was not thinking of buying a private registration at the time but for the reason at the top of the post I thought I would give a cheeky offer of £1250 total price on the car and to be honest I was surprised them accepted my offer.

I agree that private plates advertised on websites, magazines and newspapers are only worth what someone is willing to pay and would probably be able to get a 25% discount as a minimum.I do think your half eaten sandwich even at £500 is still overpriced.

To another poster I only bought the registration for the above point of view and not because I though someone thought I was rich as I am not like that.Anyway as my car is worth about 13k anyone with a new Mondeo or top spec Focus would have a more expensive car than me.

To yet another poster I am not trying to be someone I am not and also miss placed letters as other people do so please respect my views why I bought the plate and not slag me off but guess its a game you like to play.

Has this turned into Mumsnet?

Disagreeing or expressing a different view is not the same as-

Trolling
Slagging
etc
etc

I am a bit surprised you've got so far without anyone ever disagreeing with an opinion you've had - but it will happen on here.

It was just a reference to the poster too many 2CVs as they were originally for farmers for use in their fields.

Dont tell him but I quite like them and spent some happy times in one in my youth as a girlfriend had one.Think it was a 2CV Dolly, red and white, plenty of room in the back for some fun and if I remember correctly you could just take the seats out for a picnic and it had a full length canvas roof.

So for me the benefits of buying this plate is that although the letters are not my initials it does not bother me but the thousands of cars that pass me dont know this,it looks good on my car,is worth about four times what I paid for it and the most important thing for me I have never thought the car is old and not thought of changing my car so saved me a quite a bit of money in the last 5 years.
I think it's the bit in bold that I don't get. It's just a piece of plastic with some letters and numbers on it, so that's exactly what it looks like.

Same as if it was BDN 492X or something like that.

Absolutely no issue with your plate, by the way; it's set out exactly as it should be and not in the least bit 'chav', it just doesn't do anything for me...

Personal choice, like watches, i personally think paying a fortune for something that tells the time is lunacy, but each to their own, many folk think it's worth it.

You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.I think that my plate looks better than the original 52 reg plate on it when I bought the car.

Yes its only a bit of plastic but I guess a Ferrari looks better than a Kia Picanto even though they are just a piece of metal.

25 pages on this nonsense regarding a guy who can't seem to understand the laws on number plates. That's some sort of record even for PH!

But a Picanto on a vanity plate would look better than a Ferrari on a "straight" one?

A four digit plate looks way better than a date related plate whether they match your initials or not. As much as anything the fact they're different to the norm makes them stand out. Granted are there people that don't give a toss either way but the people posting how they don't notice or care seem to have pretty strong negative opinions about it!

The dateless plates also tend to sell for a lot more than dated plates and the one on that Porsche would be worth and would sell for a lot more than £1500.

Ironically I have a dated personal plate on my car, a W plate from 2000, my car is a 63 Reg - I want people to think it's a classic lol

I got a text from RegTransfers telling me that 7000 GP would be available for £3995. I looked at the DVLA auction and saw it there for £2400 reserve (£3190.40 total). But it hasn't sold. After reading BTCC's post, I'm tempted to offer DVLA £1000 all in. Just leaves the problem of what to do with my current plate rotate.

Because if you buy it from RT, they'll buy it from DVLA on your behalf. It's called "profit"...

BTW - £2400, £3190.40 total? If the £2400 is exc VAT, that's £2880, what's the rest?

Assignment fee to put it onto your car or to put it onto retention to be assigned later.

Have you ever been on Mumsnet?

Saying that the forum "has turned into Mumsnet" or telling another florum member that they should "go and post on Mumsnet" seems to be a popular insult on PH these days. I wonder how many people who make such comments have actually been onto Mumsnet before?

I'm with you on that. Expensive watches are jewelery, status symbols and designed to say something about you. If you think about them like that rather than as a simply a watch then you can understand why people pay lots of money for them. What amazes me though is that not only is an expensive watch less likely to maintain the correct time than a normal battery powered quartz watch, it also requires servicing. The last person I spoke to who had just had his watch serviced paid more for the service than my current watch cost.

Yes I have a user account on Mumsnet and I am regular reader and occasional poster on there. My complaint was that people are whining that anyone who doesn't like Personal Plates or (shock horror) has the temerity to call them Vanity Plates is a troll or is slagging.

The Mumsnet reference was based on the incidence of people there feeling they have been victimised because someone disagreed with them. As it goes, there would probably be a greater number of posters on Mumsnet who would say "oh boo hoo someone doesn't like your taste-free approach to conspicuous consumption wo(man) up and get over it" - there's probably a greater range of opinions on there.

It wasn't meant to be an insult, it wasn't meant to be a 100% accurate representation of Mumsnet, it was meant to be vaguely humorous - believe it or not, I have made some very good friends on there who I have gone on to meet in RL.
