Caught once and did the same thing again?

What's that definition of stupid? Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome?

Pratt.

ridiculous law with massive function creep to cover anything the courts see fit that's not covered by a proper law

still a class one knob for doing the same thing twice

since speed detectors are legal how can a judge ordered it destroyed, or are judges allowed to destroy anything that's legal but they take a dislike to?

Appears to be a Laser Star device.

"The Laser Star Pro not only provides an audible and visual warning to the presence of 904nm laser but by using very fast microchip technology and a Class 1 laser diode the system will also fire back matching the same frequency and pulse rate. This confuses the mobile laser speed camera equipment and preventing it from calculating a speed reading giving you enough time to brake and adjust your speed accordingly for 4-8 seconds before it automatically switches off letting a slower speed reading then be obtained."

Driving with a missing or invalid plate is, what, a £60 fine? And beats all known camera/radar/laser systems....

Seems like a harsh penalty. If the cops can fire a laser at you then you should be able to fire one back ;-)

Great use of public money. Locking him up... Would be better to just ban him for longer than he would have gotten for speeding. Stops people using the devices, and doesn't result in locking someone up in a cage.

also ordered the confiscation of his "snooper device" - I thought a camera warning device was perfectly legal.....

Make it and Ed Balls mask. He has form, so no one will suspect that it isn't really him.

Indeed. He's taking up a space that could be used by a burglar, rapist or other nasty bit of work. This bloke is just a dolt.

A complete waste of public money.

Muppet! One would assume that they arrested him at his home where they inspected his car and found said device. If he knows it's working, surely it's sensible to have a removeable device so that when they inspect your car, no trace is found...

On what grounds have they banned him from driving? is PCOJ now punishable with a driving ban? or has he been convicted of something under the road traffic act?

did they have to present any evidence he was speeding, or used the device to commit any offences ? or would they equally convict someone who had one and never broke the speed limit?

It is permissible for courts to disqualify someone from driving for non motoring offences:
(Don't ask me what section of law this is in because I don't know)

Magistrates Guidelines said:
The court may disqualify any person convicted of an offence from driving for such period as it thinks fit.
This may be instead of or in addition to dealing with the offender in any other way.

The section does not require the offence to be connected to the use of a vehicle.
However, the Court of Appeal has held that the power cannot be exercised arbitrarily and there must be sufficient reason for the disqualification.
