Seriously? Nearly 30 odd years ago?

Im sure she could have retrained in something. What did she do with her time?

I'm amazed by All these women that no longer have responsibility for kids and are unable to get any work whatsoever. As discussed in numerous other threads there is always work out there for those that are willing to do it. Can't understand why having a few years off makes these women go from career driven powerhouses with a fantastic future to not being able to find work.
+1 and another reason I'm never getting married again.

Sorry for the delayed response, I've had a busy weekend...

Yes each case on it's own merits etc, but the case I highlighted above (albeit extreme) is an absolute perversion of the law (not to mention morally obscene) as it stands!

There should be no 'upkeep to the standard of living she/he was used to'!!! Millions of people manage on £10/20/30k per year - separation from a multi millionaire SHOULD NOT entitle you to a massive income, you've already received half of the estate. Sell something if you're too lazy to get a job!

It should be:

If there are no children, the marital assets are split 50/50, the end!

If there are children, as above plus a maintenance payment to the non resident parent as long as the children are dependent and finish school/higher education!

If I enter any details into the CSA website, the MAXIMUM (for one child) is £1200 per month, bearing in mind this is a ridiculous figure to pay (some people don't earn that), things like horse maintenance are laughable, shouldn't even be mentioned in a seperation case!

She got £75,000 per year to support her and her daughter (and her horses)??? ON TOP OF AT LEAST 50% of everything!

At least tell me you think this is wrong!

You say you didn't go for maintenance, I bet you got at least 60% of the assets? If he gives you 15% of his earnings after tax, that is a fair settlement...

Unless you want to explain in more detail?
I completely think it is wrong that she got £75k on top of 50% of everything, I was referring to maintenance only.

As for me? The assets, let me remember. Oh yes, there were none, just debts!!! We had sold our house and moved into rented accommodation and then he left (me thinks there was some planning with that) so actually I did get the house and the requirement to pay rent for it. The only assets I got was the furniture in the house as I fought for something (I was on maternity leave and on a reduced income). As for child maintenance? He pays £200 pcm for our son. He works in the Financial Sector so let me know if you think this is fair? I do not but my quality of life is more important than chasing the money.

And I earn enough now that for the last 3 years I have put this money in an account for my son for university so now I fully support him on a day to day basis and am proud of that. I was left with practically nothing, just debts and fought my way back.

Every case on its merits and not every ex wife is a SWT. And I have managed to find some poor sod to put up with me and live with me (to reference the bitter poster earlier)

Edited to add: I now have wound myself up and need to go and make tea to calm down.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you make it seem as if every person in the finance sector earns a king's ransom. Some do, most do not.

That said, £200/month seems spectacularly low.

I was trying to be cagey as not my place to identify him and share his personal information. That said, whilst his salary was not t a king's ransom necessarily it would pay for a Duke or possibly a minor prince.

Trust me, the £200 was not a commensurate amount.
