I had my roof done 2 years ago - ridge tiles cemented. House is 4 bed detached so roof a decent size. Roofer gave me printed receipt that said work was guaranteed for 10 years. Have called him 8 times now to come over and rectify the work every time he tells me he will be over next week. Never turns up. What are my options? Trading standards dont want to no now do they? Small claims court?

Work was about £750

Fiddler on the roof?

Sorry, couldn't resist, I'll getmecoat .

Joking apart smile , it may well be worth your while contacting "consumer direct" (or whatever they are called today - they were the "public access portal" for Tradng Standards the last time I needed them redface ) and speaking to them (including details of the printed receipt with the 10 year promise)? As a starter for ten, anyway smile .

Presumably you've got an invoice for the work rather than it being a cash in hand job?

Presumably you've read the bit where he says "printed receipt from the roofer" ?

Get him out and to inspect the roof. Once he is on the roof remove his ladders. Tell him he can have them back when it's sorted.

Is the problem with the works he carried out - refixing the ridge tiles, or is it another problem?

Does he have a presence on social media? Possibly apply moral pressure that way?

You get what you pay for, and I'd be surprised if you paid much for that, it was the work of a plank.

I wouldn't want him back to bodge it even more. Imagine the quality of workmanship you'll get after all the hassle you've had to give him to come and look at it. That's if he ever turns up.

Put it down to experience. Find a recommended guy locally and get it done properly.

Looking at your pictures it looks like the ridge tiles have just been "buttered up" - i.e. the roofer has just knocked off some of the old sand/ cement and "re-pointed" them.

This never lasts - the new pointing just falls off.

The only way to do the job properly is to remove and re-bed the tiles.

What did the invoice say/ what did he charge you for ? (£750 is a lot, even for a proper job by the way).

Bodge job don't have him back.

About £500 max for a proper job.I had similar work done few years ago plastic ridge tiles instead of mortar. Old mortar taken out replaced with wood batten.Ridge tiles screwed into wood.Nicely finished £450.Old builder with his son two days work.

Let's see the letter and detail of the work carried out. £750 seems cheap.
