Maybe it was this bit that made some people question your attitude. People can only go on what you type.

Now I've been told by some people that it has been over a year so I don't have to pay?
I was confused by it, had 2 people I work with swear down that now it's wiped off and I just fill out a form. Thought I would ask here, instead I've had 20 people try bite my head off for a honest mistake in forgetting about it.

Is swearing in a particular direction more effective?

Nobody's bitten your head off, your whole attitude stunk of trying to get away with not paying it.

"Swear down" is what you hear on Jeremy Kyle a lot.

As in "I swear down on (insert random dead persons name here) grave, I never slept with Xenon behind your back when I was pregnant with baby Ebola."

I'm aware of its usage. I'm waiting for the OP to deny his ned credentials.

According to the OP the experience of being in a courtroom, being convicted, being given a fine, sending his licence to be endorsed were all entirely wiped from his consciousness within just three months.

However, he could seeming hold the memory of his exact financial status during this time period up to today, so this rules out head trauma or similar.

Good to know you watch the Jeremy Kyle show. Can't say I've seen it beyond the odd clip on YouTube.
Can't really claim to be a "ned" it's just a saying up here in the highlands.

Don't ignore it. It won't go away, but you might ! You are probably being asked to fill in a declaration of income form i.e. employer, bank and NI details. Contact the Fine Enforcement Officer at the sheriff court who issued it, and discuss what you intend to do to resolve payment. Key is to keep contact and be reasonable. Don't keep him happy, he refers it to us in court. For that fine, I guess the local JPs. You get 1 citation to come to court, don't turn up and we issue a warrant for your arrest.
If at court you can't rather than won't pay, we'll offer a CPO i.e. unpaid work. I guess though if you have a car, you have the means, just not the motivation to pay. Court will decide when you appear. If you don't keep to the court imposed plan, the FEO will look at bank or wages arrestments, or seizing the car one morning if in your name. We have also launched this years holiday initiative i.e. if there's a warrant we will check outbound flights from Scotland, and you might be picked up at the airport.
Whatever you do, don't think it will go away. We will keep chasing for as long as it takes unless you disappear and are untraced for a lot longer than a year. If we have your address though, we know where to find you. Get in touch, and stay in touch. Offer what you can afford.
^^^ One who knows exactly what happens has spoken. There has been a lot of BS on this thread. "Ignore it and it will be written off after a year"? Complete bks. Ignore it and you will end up being arrested. You could end up being jailed.

It's different now from when I worked in the sheriff courts but back then:
1. You got fined and were given time to pay or allowed to pay by instalments.
2. If you defaulted, you get a warning letter.
3. If you ignored that you got cited to a Fines (or Means) Enquiry Court.
4. When you attended the FEC you were usually given more time to pay but given the alternative of time in jail if you defaulted.
5. If you defaulted again, depending on how nasty the Sheriff Clerk felt*, you either got another warning letter, or an extract warrant was issued to the police, whereupon you were nicked and, unless you could pay the whole fine in cash, you went to jail.
6. If you didn't turn up at the FEC a warrant was issued for your arrest, you were nicked and unless you could pay the whole fine in cash you were held in custody until you could be brought before the court, then follow from 4 above.

A copper I used to know would make a point of picking up defaulters once a warrant had been issued on a Friday at about 3-4pm. Too late for court, so a long weekend in the big hotel with bars on the windows...

I know that the OP has done the right thing and contacted the court - I just wouldn't like anyone listening to some of the wrong advice given on the thread... typical PH, of course!

I know this is off topic and probably wouldn't get an answer, but how the hell does a 20 year old insure a BMW 320 after having had a driving conviction?

When I was that age I was having troubles keeping insurance for a 1.5 Suzuki for under £1000...

forgot to tell insurers about his conviction ?

My points are 6 down as a sp30 for 1 conviction. Been driving since 17, 2 years no claims, one of the best possible postcodes. Costs me £80 a month, would be cheaper as a 1 off payment. And yes, it's in my name and fully legit.

Must have been very lucky in timing of your conviction? If I remember correctly you only get 6 points to play about with in your first 2 years? Since this happened last year you'll have been 19?

I'm just curious that's all. At that age I was struggling to get a good quote for most things for under £1000, and that was 5 years ago. Also being in a good postcode and 3 years clean license + NCB.

Happened within my first 2 years, right at the end of the second year. Had to resit both tests. Doesn't class as a driving ban for insurance purposes (I asked about this)

Yes I could afford the monthly payments on a newish bmw. Deposit paid by selling current car. Xbox was a gift to me. You don't know my current situation.
I was genuinely broke for 3 months and by then I had forgot about about the fine as I never got another letter about it until last week. Just wondering how I go about this if I can't pay it all right now?
I was a PC on dock duty some years ago in an afternoon fines court when a fine defaulter came up before the bench. Pleading poverty & offering a paltry amount per week. One of his monthly expenses - I can't recall the amount but it wasn't small - was a car. After some questioning by the bench which he did his best to evade he finally had to admit that the car was a Rolls Royce - not a new one. No sooner had the words left his mouth than the chairman said 'Officer, take him down'. Which came as a bit of a surprise to me as they usually just gave them a lecture and a bit longer to pay! As I was taking him down the stairs to the cells, 2 of his friends stood up at the back of the court & anounced that they had the cash with them to pay. he still got to remain locked up until the court rose.
So my advice to you is to pay up ASAP.
Oh, and stop digging.
Didn't say I was avoiding paying, just that I can't pay the whole amount right now, was wondering what I do in this situation.
Yes I can afford it monthly, doesn't mean I always keep money? I have a social life, I'm only 20, I go out and enjoy my money.

If I can't pay the whole amount right now, what happens? Can pay it off come next pay day.
What an absolute you are. Enough money for the monthly payment on a BMW and to piss up the wall, but not enough to pay a modest fine? Complete .
