I have moved recently, and am curious about the parking restrictions on my road (Gravesham Council area).

There is a single yellow line on my side, indicating a parking restriction of some sort. On a post nearby is a small sign with a "No Stopping" roundel, and the wording "At any time on verge or footway". The road is urban, paved, with paved footpaths either side.

My initial interpretation was that, as long as I am parked on the carriageway and not on the footway, that's OK but, as this isn't a restriction that I'm familiar with, I thought I'd ask for others' thoughts on this. Is the restriction as simple as it sounds?

Single yellow lines round here mean no parking between 8am and 6pm Mon-Sat. We have no verge or footway signs.

I thought single yellow meant refer to sign for parking restrictions.

Single yellow line = part-time parking/loading & unloading restrictions as per the local 'plate on a post'; double yellow line = full time parking and possible part-or-full-time loading & unloading restrictions (from memory)? For 'public' (as opposed to 'private') roads, anyway...

OP, I suggest looking on the local authority website - particularly their online maps then (in general terms) 'roads' to see if the road concerned is a road maintained at public expense (ie a 'public' road) or not wink . The description of the single yellow line and plates suggests to me that this is a 'private' road scratchchin .

It's an A road in an urban area... The only useful info gleaned from the Council website is that it is also a designated HGV route.
