Sorry, didn't see this before. This is what I would use in these circumstances: https://www.fizzpay.com/
Is that because you are a satisfied user? It says "FizzPay helps sellers in the United States" on their website...

Cash always. And make sure its not counterfeit.

Sending it to a friends house shouts SCAM to me.

I wouldnt trust paypal as far as i could throw it.

BACS is reversible. you can walk into your bank and reverse it the same day.

CHAPS I believe isnt as its instant, but if their is any hint of fraud it can still be reversed, ie you received money from a stolen bank account. CHAPS has a fee.

No chance. If t'were me in this transaction, or similar, I'd be immediately ruling out any payment scheme I'd never heard of.

Paypal carries fairly sizable fees, and is fairly easy for the buyer to unwind.
Bank transfer, every time - no risk, no fee.

As for the actual delivery/collection - packaging is going to be entertaining, but your local Halfrauds/bike shop might have some surplus packaging from a new bike that they'd bung you for a drink. If he's happy to take the risk, and he's happy to pay for it - it's his lookout. Plenty of photos as you package it and once it's packaged, in case of later argument.

Still has a risk but is lower than paypal. No such thing as no risk.

Meeting at the bank with the bike and paying the money straight into your bank then handing over the bike is the lowest risk, but still a chance of getting punched and robbed but thats perhaps a low risk due to cameras and witness's and such.

The risk factor increases if your rushed i find, dont allow the buyer to rush you or give you deadlines, 'birthday gift' or whatever excuses if thats truly the case then its not your problem. Their are plenty of people who are after a proper bargain who will be patient. If it seems to good to be true it usually is.

If your bank has a branch close to where the buyer is just get him to deposit cash into your account.

Otherwise, if it has to be online, a bank transfer is the best.
