This seems like the sensible option. Although I'd caveat this with, if the car needs to go for repairs before it will pass an MOT then should it be driven on the roads? The vehicle still needs to be roadworthy to avoid being nicked.1. If it needs repairs because it needs a tune up to pass emmisions, then that's not really a big issue, however if the suspension is hanging off (extreme example), then it's unreasonable (and illegal) to drive it.
