Working Easter Sunday

Place I work isn't even open on Easter Sunday but I was told 5 minutes before leaving my previous shift that I was to work Easter Sunday on a different shirt.
Not entirely happy as I feel they've deliberately made this known a few minutes before leaving.
I'm on a P/T contract but just interested is this legal or the norm.
I was planning on putting away few chocolate eggs into my cheeks like an ambitious hamster.

It must be a complicated weave if it requires Easter Sunday work.
OP, if the place isn't open, how will you get in?
What does your contract say about working bank holidays and how much notice they have to give you regarding your shifts.
Mines states normally i'll get bank holidays off unless there is a shortage of volunteers to work that day. In that event they can make us come in, but they give us at least 30 days notice.

Forget that it is a Sunday, but if you are contracted to work a given day then you are paid for that day.

And this shows why one individuals circumstances are often of little help to another's.I am contracted to work Sunday mornings, but as the store is not open that day I cannot go into work.... But I DO get paid. Same happens every year.

If you get a premium for weekends it makes a mess of it.
I used to work on a 4 day a week pattern, always two weekend days and two from the week. Lovely, except that the weekend rate was paid as an overtime premium, so if you were forced to have a day off for Easter or you took holiday over the weekend, you'd always end up significantly short.
Maybe an exceptional case for me in the past, however, I can easily see how similar scenarios can make a big difference to the small margins.
