Not trying to act holier than thou or anything but the French, for all their faults, are rather helpful in signing their cameras. In 20 years of driving in France I think I have set off one, once on one of their single lane bridges on the road to LM.
I'm not sure I agree. Seen some that just looked like grey electrical boxes on the side of the road.

They pretty much all look like that, but there's usually a warning sign a few hundred metres before them. The sign isn't illuminated at night though, and easy to miss even in the daytime if you're not paying full attention.

Ahh. I worked on the theory they didn't matter & waited to see what flashed so I could recognise them in future hehe

Your only problem is getting physically stopped. Got a ticket in Denmark for 400 euro's and was driven to a cashpoint to pay up. Painful experience but the coppers were very very friendly. He was apologetic for giving me such a big fine.
Denmark don't use the euro.

Krona.

Yep, that's why I had to go to the cashpoint and withdraw. No idea what the exact figure in krona is, just that it was 400 euro's worth.

They have a rate card which sets the price according to your percentage above the limit and unfortunately the guy got me just as the road went down to 90kmh from 130. So I was a good 45% above the speed limit at the time.

I thought when Hollande was elected he brought in a load of new cameras without warning signs?

Returned from France a couple of weeks ago where we had a Hertz car. On Monday received a letter from Hertz advising they've deducted €20 from credit card for administration due to them having to provide our details to the authorities . Next letter opened was for a speeding fine of €45 for doing 78kph in a 70kph limit. frown
Worse still, it was in a Fiat 500.

That's what I heard, but having lived in France for the last 9 months, I haven't seen any. There's quite a few sneaky unmarked cars with cameras in them which park up at the side of roads, got flashed by one of them last week and I didn't think I was even speeding!

Most of the locals seem to use Waze, so as soon as a speed trap is set up it gets reported pretty quickly.

Good luck with them taking you to court in the UK for an offence that didn't occur here.

I'd just throw their letters in the bin or if feeling proactive reply that you'll see them in court.
