A13 average speed section coming in/out of London is especially bad for this.
does the A13 limit by the M25 qualify as the worst speed limit of all time?

Just all too many people on the roads who neither know nor care how to drive.

Given almost everyone these days has a SatNav, I can't understand why I'm always the fastest car when I'm doing exactly 50?

I dont see the issue, you got held up by someone going 2-5mph slower than you want to go, not the end of the world.
You wanna try doing that for 20 miles on the M1 south of Sheffield. You soon get frustrated!

It can often be 5-10mph, that aside, it would not be quite so bad if they at least maintained a steady speed.

That turns normal folks into absolute complete total and utter cock jockeys? Almost every single time I'm in a 40/50/60/whatever average speed zone there is some militant tt sitting in the right hand lane just below the posted limit. This usually equates to at least 5mph below the limit on GPS. Usually I end up passing on the left, doing the actual limit on average according to the trip computer, only to be passed by said knob jockey once the restriction ends. If they are so obsessed with being self appointed police folk, why don't they sit in the right hand lane at an indicated 68mph refusing to move over for anyone? It's bizarre. I've had them speed up *just enough* to catch the car in front then speed match to form a rolling roadblock. It's as if the mentality is "I'm doing this speed, so nobody else can go faster". But this doesn't extend to normal roads. Just, why?
There are 2 schools of thought at work here:

Within ASL zone:

"Thou shalt not pass, and I don't want to get a ticket"

Outside of ASL zone:

"Thou shalt not pass"

There. /thread

I'm referring really to those who are without doubt absolutely knowing in doing this; it's the self appointed police aspect I just don't get given that the behaviour ceases the moment the limits come to an end. What gives someone the right to force others to travel 10mph than they legally could otherwise? I ignore and pass on the left mostly these days, but occasionally you just have to wait whilst one of these pricks deliberately blocks alongside a car in lane 1.

What does a rabbit do at night when it sees headlights coming towards it? Some humans behave in a similar way in a situation in which they are paralysed with fear / uncertainty.

There are some who take the "Stay in lane" thing a little too seriously. If I pull out to pass a struggling lorry doing 35 uphill in a monitored 40 section, I just pull back over when I pass him.

I like the people who take up a position on my shoulder approaching the end of the zone who clearly think they're going to regain full cruising speed faster than the "loser" (me) in lane 1...

Either that or people drive over the limit, then brake at the cameras???
Haha, always makes me laugh when you see a big pair of skid marks before an average speed camera - almost certainly too late sunshine!
More specifically where traffic is flowing at below the speed limit, then some tw*t hits the brakes at the Gatso because they are not paying attention. This is the dangerous fool.

How do you view queues in shops, etc?

It would only add a minute or 2 onto your time in the shop if someone pushed in front of you in the queue but I'd bet you wouldn't just stand there and let them do it.

And a 5 mph difference over the entire length will add about 2 mins to your journey, about the same as getting caught at a set of traffic lights

Funny how peoples speed varies during average speed camera zones. It's most noticeable when you're using cruise control and SatNav/GPS for speed reference.

I reckon about 90% of drivers slow down a good 5mph when the yellow average camera's are in view, like that'll make a difference. They just don't seem to comprehend how the cameras work.

But the 50 limit has already increased the time it takes to travel the 20 miles from around 17 minutes to 24 minutes (and that's assuming I only do 70 and not 85-90).

And how would you feel if same bloke held you up for 2 minutes at traffic lights by sitting through the green phase??
