That turns normal folks into absolute complete total and utter cock jockeys? Almost every single time I'm in a 40/50/60/whatever average speed zone there is some militant tt sitting in the right hand lane just below the posted limit. This usually equates to at least 5mph below the limit on GPS. Usually I end up passing on the left, doing the actual limit on average according to the trip computer, only to be passed by said knob jockey once the restriction ends. If they are so obsessed with being self appointed police folk, why don't they sit in the right hand lane at an indicated 68mph refusing to move over for anyone? It's bizarre. I've had them speed up *just enough* to catch the car in front then speed match to form a rolling roadblock. It's as if the mentality is "I'm doing this speed, so nobody else can go faster". But this doesn't extend to normal roads. Just, why?

Sure, and they can in a normal 70mph limited motorway, so why not do it there too?

They know there are cameras there, so they reckon (in their own minds) that they're doing all those behind them a favour

More of a worry is the average speed camera's that have just popped up on the M4, no 50 limit and appear to be monitoring the standard limit! s!

More of a worry than people who chuck an apostrophe into a plural?

I think it's probably due to them knowing that everyone is going to be doing pretty much the same speed (+/- 5mph) and therefore assume they're not holding anyone up.

Personally, if it's average speed cameras for road works I obey to the letter as I've worked beside traffic and know just how unpleasant it is. Similarly I drive on the speed limit in roadworks without cameras if there is anyone working. Sometimes slower.

This is one of my pet peeves.

Keep left unless overtaking is the rule and should be observed regardless.

Far too many wannabe traffic cops out there.

Haha, always makes me laugh when you see a big pair of skid marks before an average speed camera - almost certainly too late sunshine!

It is my fervent wish to see this fundamental rule displayed on every motorway illuminated sign matrix, as well as large permanent signs every 5 miles or so, and the subject of a major multi-media public awareness advertising campaign.

It would do more good than all the bcensoredy party political broadcasts we've been bombarded with lately. irked

As they say, "How hard can it be?"

Sod that, its the morons that speed up to the first average speed cam then do under the limit for the rest of the stretch. Worse in a single lane set up.

I've thought the same and when I was up in Scotland briefly its exactly what they did

In bad weather or at dusk, "check your lights"
Keep left except when overtaking
Scots even had one "under inflated tyres use more fuel" - I'm sure that appealed to their wallets wink

Copper ahead, slow down (might have trouble getting them to agree to that one)

Back on topic, I find that pretty much everyone drives at the same speed through average speed cameras and a few mph difference ain't worth getting stressed over.

I dont see the issue, you got held up by someone going 2-5mph slower than you want to go, not the end of the world.

It's a good question and one I've pondered over In the 46mph queue behind them a few times.

The only thing I've come up with is that they can't cope with simultaneously thinking about speed and which lane they should be in.

When there is no temporary lower limit they manage because they can instinctively stick to a rigid 63mph with no effort and can therefore muster up the thought power to make an occasional judgement regarding lane choice.

yes

A13 average speed section coming in/out of London is especially bad for this.
