Heading home today I spotted a man in a dayglow jacket on a bridge (A30 north of Winchester) with a substantial tripod. Couldn't see the camera very well as he was facing away from me looking down the other carriageway. He was standing with the tripod next to a beige Fiesta, no markings.

It's a known camera location as my PGPSW database pinged. My question is would a scamera operator be out of a vehicle like that, or is it more likely to be a surveyor?

Sounds more like a civil engineer with a theodolite or a total station etc.

I did know a company that had a lot of beige fiesta vans too for their engineers although that was many years ago.

I did think so but at a known van location there were a lot of suddenly law abiding folk.... laugh (me included!!)

Could be anything. If it's anything automotive it' sounds like it's more ANPR for insurance and road tax dodgers.

2 week wait to be sure assuming you were the wrong side of the limit.

Camera was facing away from us but it didn't matter, I was on the right side of the limit - in a stream of traffic with a very observant driver at the front smile

Will likely be a laser level or something for engineering purposes. I see them quite often.

Looks like a survey location. Two blokes in deck chairs there yesterday. Saw them at 7am and still there at 5:15pm.
