have you ever actually seen a trade plate?

If your lucky theres a loop of rubber, which serves very little purpose and that's it.

I think less than half I used even had that!

Don't the trade plates have rubber straps and whatnot?

Not all of them.

Ours are just bare plastic plates with the triangular bit sticking out the top with the additional details on.

All you can do with them is wedge them between the dashboard and windscreen so they can be seen through the window.

Speaking from experience with trade plates, if you try and put them actually on the front and rear of the car they simply flap about in the wind, turn over and damage paintwork.
Then you must secure them more firmly.
Here in the real world, where we move quite a number of cars per day from dealership to body repair and back again, it is almost impossible to attach a trade plate to a vehicle so that it won't swing about, scratch the paint, and possibly fall off.

Yes, you could 'gaffer tape' them on but that would require an arduous process to both apply and remove each time, wasting considerable time. Tape residue makes a mess and is time consuming to remove.

We just put them in the front and rear windows and haven't had a problem. It's quick, doesn't damage the car and they won't fall off.

You can cut the triangular bit off now as there's no need for it any more.

Really ?

So they don't need to show the licence, as we don't need to show the RFL disc these days ....

Somebody gets a ticket and has to explain it to his boss... whats he going to say.. "copper pulled me, plates were on the seat, I gave him a load of verbals and he didn't see the funny side, I should have burnt him off as he was driving a poxy hyundai". We get loads of threads that turn mid way because a bit more truth comes out. Might be wrong here but its a fair challenge.

Is there any real excuse if you're in the trade for not having the ability to do your job properly? Want a doctor to stick a rusty thermometer in you to take your temperature?

Rear trade plate fell out and was quite tricky to affix. Police officer in Hyundai stops him and was incredibly irate and rude from the get go with calm staff member. quote]

You weren't actually there were you?

So how do we know this is correct?

Has a nasty policeman upset you when he told you off being naughty?

I know the member of staffs character and a fibber or someone to exegarate is not the way he operates. He wouldn't have gotten angry with the officer either.

I mention Hyundai as I assumed it was given to more lower ranking police officers i could be wrong. Seems a bit of a joey that would be in one of them versus the unmarked X5 types.

I will pay the £100 fine it's not the end of the world just seems very petty and pathetic IMO. I thought he could have at least found an incorrect use of trade plate offence to get the member of staff with.

Front trade plate was displayed for whoever asked.

So what is the price of a fitting kit for trade plates? How much do the rubber straps cost? Would they be a worthwhile investment or can the company afford a potential extra £100 cost for each vehicle movement? Because now the Hyundai driver has got you on his radar.

Correct, there isn't anything to fit in the little triangle bit anymore as we don't get a licence disc either.

It's also not classed as damaging crown property if you do decide to hacksaw it off as it's unnecessary.
