a head injury can deteriorate very quickly.

I know of two occasions where a head injury occurred and there was no prior warning of any symptoms. One died. slipped on ice fell and banged his head on pavement. dead in the morning.

Now we can turn a blind eye or allow things to go without saying anything as we dont wan to cause a fuss.... WTF dont want to cause a fuss - like someone threw a stone deliberately and it strikes someone then walks away laughing. get a grip here - this is not a causal for fun event - are we really at the point that we accept that this is normal behavior and to be accepted if it is then stop the bus as I want off.

what about the case in liverpool the Bulger case how many peeps turned a blind eye on the things these kids were doing ? that is the issue we have become too tolerant of such behavior. accidents and rough behaviour is normal but throwing a stone at someone and then walking away laughing isnt. it never will be an it nee should be.

We used to call it "split".

But we used much bigger knives, not penknives, they were for girls........

Perhaps this will be enough? You don't have to CS gas everyone, you know!
I suspect it would be enough but its a shame that the mother hasn't got the minerals to discipline her child and simply tells the OP to call the police.

If she's feeling dizzy, that suggests a concussion. If she's dissy the next day, it's a bad sign I think ( from my reading on concussion and trying to minimise it during full contact sports).

I would yo to A&e.

Agreed, I used to play it with darts and laughed when someone got one in the foot.

However recently my 10yr daughter got cornered by a number of boys who started shouting and threatening her, she came home in tears and I immediately forgot my past and leapt uncontrollably into "protective dad mode" mad

Thanks for the replies.... swapped pc so been off the net a little..

Daughter is fine, was a little dizzy on the Friday too but we had kept an eye on her and went into the doctors Friday morning. She's fine, has a couple of small bits of wood left in the wound but they have given advise and some thing to help draw them out..

Plod came up over the weekend and spoke to her and even though non of us are over stating what happened they are keen to speak to him., think that maybe he's started to run off the rails before, maybe further intervention may be enough to push him the right direction now.

May well have been bravado in front of his pals but who knows. Even if no action is taken, which at his age is doubtful anyway then the police at his house having a chat may be a help to him and his family.

His daughter should not of been taken to A&E I wish everyone would stop clogging up A&Es when we have other services to advise and deal with these issues first.

If she is dizzy after 24hrs you should be calling NHS direct on 111 for medical advice on next steps, people go to A&E when often you'll be advised to see your GP in their emergency appointments. Passing out / fainting after the event would be completely different.
We had paramedics living next door to us until recently and their advice, after my O/H fell and hit her head causing dizziness, was to go to A&E - where concussion was diagnosed. That was also what I was told to do when I dialled NHS Direct.

fully agree, my wife is a teacher and has had parents bring kids back into school at the end of the day, asking her to discipline the child as 'they won't listen to me'

it's because some parents these days want to be best mates with their kids not parents, they don't want to be seen as the bad guy, but as the 'cool' parent.

glad the young lady is ok.

Used to play 'brick tick' with half-housebricks.

Well we did until some spack decided to catch/deflect it with his head instead of his hand/foot.

How would you suggest to discipline a child that doesn't listen to you and does what they want?
