Got home from work last night to find daughter (12) was playing out with pals and a younger lad through a chunk of wood at her and hit her on the head.

Seems that this action was deliberate, the lad walked off laughing.

At first it didn't hurt daughter and she just brushed it off but her pal noticed a few minutes later it was quite bad. Came home and wife pulled out a few splinters from the area of impact. She was then quite dizzy and has been so today as well.

Wife went up the house where the lad belongs, I don't go cos to be fair, if I turn up looking the way I do it just passes the impression I am there to batter the living st out of them (I am quite a big fella shall we say) and that causes more issues than it solves where kids and their parents are involved. My wife is infinitesimally more tactful than me as well. angel

She spoke to mum (there is no dad) and to be fair was reasonable and wife got the impression she struggles with the five kids she has yikes but mum said to call the police on the little st, ooops I mean darling.

So we have made a call to plod and booked an appointment (how very modern?) for them to come around over the weekend.

One part of me thinks kids will be kids so let it be, but the other thinks that he needs spoken to sternly by plod so hopefully it nips any behaviour he has in the bud. I know due to his age nothing will happen to him other than hopefully a stern word from plod but is it worth it?

Worst "I am powerfully built" thread since 911 motorsport smile

Seriously, let it go apart from politely raising it with the lads parents, but if it happens again pursue more vigorously

Well if charged it could be shocking.

Or kids playing. Does it really need escalating into police/social services intervention? Doesn't sound like it from the OP's description.

Are you positive? I'm neutral, there might be some winding up here, but it isn't my field. The kids probably gone to earth now.

Presumably you've had her checked out for concussion? That'd probably be my 'action'.

^^^ Best non-pun post. Do that. Otherwise, if she is fine and it isn't some ongoing war I would leave it - kids do worse things to each other.

Just as an aside - don't automatically rule out some form of reporting as the officers may feel it appropriate to notify local children's services as a "cause for concern".

Social Services rightly get a bad press on occasion but, if she is struggling with her children, the opportunity to seek advice or support may be welcome.

otherwise, just let them charge him

edited - damn, somebody already did the "charge" pun

If she is feeling dizzy 24 hours later, she should be checked for concussion as soon as possible - A&E right now would be good

All puns aside - it depends on how far you want to take it, violent offences are taken seriously and police may consider further action (YC/YCC or more) especially if he's done similar in the past.

Of course if this is a one-off, a clip round the ear and stern telling off might be more appropriate wink

There's always some bright spark who is ever ready to overcome the resistance to weigh up the pluses and minuses of such a current situation and make the connection to ensure his is charged to endure-a-cell for a while.

Electricity jokes are very amusing, concussion isn't.

So what should the Police do?

Lock him up? Never going to happen

Should the mother deal with it? Probably

Will the police do some sort of restorative action? Highly likely but even so it'll be way of an apology and a bking.

This thug needs to be brought to task and it installed into him that this is not acceptable.

get the police involved and ensure that its properly dealt with. hes testing the water pushing the boundaries and needs to be brought back in.

don't let it go,
