I was in court last month. Caught at 110mph on a dual carriageway 70mph limit. Got myself a brief and mitigation was I needed my license for work. A short ban would have been disastrous to My career. I was given 6 points and a heavy fine. Do turn up in court and come prepared I had character refs and a letter from my employer and they do consider these in court. I had a barrister do all the talking and she spoke to cps before the case too and was confident about the outcome. The court won't want to hear excuses just be apologetic - I had a written statement from myself to the magistrate to express my remorse.
Hope it goes well if you prepare your mitigation accordingly you might just keep your license. It's a horrible time whilst waiting for the court case but if there's one thing you should be thinking is now is a time to slow down on the roads because only now have you realised what it would mean if you lost your license.
Excellent and useful post.

A good friend of mine got caught recently doing 97 on the A3. He thought it would just be a big fine & lots of points....but he has now been informed that he might well get an automatic ban as the law has changed. It used to be an automatic ban for 100 & over....but apparently it's now 96! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
bks - the "automatic" thing at 96 is you get summonsed to court. Up to that speed you get a fixed penalty.

had a similar experience and have a court summons sat in front of me.

96 in a 70 on the M4 caught by a radar trap at the side of the road, road was fairly clear and i was driving at a fair clip so have to face the consequences.

unfortunately for me 96 is the speed that it goes to court at, rather than FPN; which is a shame! just trying to decide if i should go to court and plead guilty/beg forgiveness or do it by post. my first thought is to attend holding the hand of a brief and look sad and sorry.

if you take your punishment and apoligise in the correct fashion your licence should be fine, just with a 4-6 point bonus scheme attached.

i now drive like Miss Daisy and it's quite sobering to realise that i could be on 9 points very shortly (have 3 already) and close to some very sticky brown stuff. LEave plenty of time for journeys is now my personal mantra.

AGT, you have email!!!!!

If it's any conciliation, my workmate got caught doing 102 in a 70. No previous points or convictions in 8 years.

He went to court, represented himself, admitted guilt and was extremely apologetic. Hated every single second of it and described it as absolutely nerve wrecking.

He ended up with a 30 day ban, court fees and I think 6 points on his license. (May of been 3) As you'd imagine he was happy with that outcome.

You maybe ok and end up with a similar punishment. Good luck
I didn't think you could get points AND a ban?
A lot on here say you don't. But I did and so did a couple of friends of mine as well at different times.

Long time ago now, but my paper licence came back with the points on with something like (not valid) stamped over them as the ban removed the points.
Best of luck today OP smile

Hope it went OK for you OP.

I was 'caught' on the M6 doing 125mph (I wasn't but that's another story and it would have been fighting a losing battle).

6 points and a hefty fine a couple of years ago, I got VERY lucky I think in that I wasn't banned.

- I won't bore you all with the details but I KNOW I wasn't doing 125 (I was on cruise control at a lower speed) and when I asked to see the in car video that the interceptor said he had, it had mysteriously corrupted. Still, he had his calibrated speedo...

Custodial for 97mph in a 70? Unlikely unless he's got previous Guv

Sorry guys I had work commitments and forgot about this.
5 points
£180 fine
All in total costs £390.

Promptly paid via the online system, informed insurers and now I can move on (Keeping well below the speed limit honest)

Just seen this thread but that's almost exactly the same as I received 11 years ago for pretty much the same offense (96 in a 70).
