Op it sounds like you really want to take the ban, to show you the error of your ways, this is very noble of you, perhaps you would even consider begging the magistrate to extend the ban indefinitely?

You know it's wrong, you know it's stupid, but you just can't help yourself?
Take the ban and be grateful.
One less idiot.
Well said. smile
Check this guy out, just as bad IMO

In a parallel universe....

somebody said:
So Im on 12 points with another 6 pending.

Took on a lawyer who was confident of getting me off at 15 under exceptional hardship, but taking a very lovely sum of around 5/6k to do so.

Since then I got another 3 ...I know, I know, but its done now. Mostly for phone.

Then I was driving home last night when I got a really important call. I put it on speaker so I wasn't holding the phone, but whilst I was putting it down a pedestrian walked out in front of me. I hit him without braking at about 40mph. He's dead.

I'm being prosecuted for causing death by dangerous driving. If I go to jail my business is fked.

Am I going to jail?
It could have cost you a lot more than 6 grand.

How is it too tempting?
I have literally NEVER had the urge to check my texts while driving, if you need your fix so badly there are many places where one can stop their car, perhaps at 30 or even 15 minute intervals, to satisfy your craving.

I'll step back from being judgemental as there is enough in the thread and you are being open ...

Seriously, if business is good, ask yourself this.

By investing 25k (?) in a driver, could I increase the profits of the business by more than 25k in the next year by being able to increase by working time?

If so, get a driver anyway...

Wasn't looking for sympathy and didn't expect it, Held hands up to having a problem, expected all the preachy posts, it is PH after all!

Its all very well preaching not knowing full extend of issues.

The business as grown a little too quickly perhaps and as its stands, everything still ran from home with 10 full time staff. No admin, no mangers just me and 9 working men, so Im often project managing 3-5 sites, doing admin, meeting clients etc etc literally ran off my feet all day and often night.

Leaving phone for a few hours results in maybe 15-20 unread texts. So yes the company clearly has infrastructure problems, its a shame its took this ban for me to realise.

Its easy to say get a receptionist in, but the nature of my business people want to talk to me, and Id only end up with phone calls every 5 mins from reception with questions, or a mountain of calls to return on my arrival. I guess, we need some middle management and receptionist.

Interesting about the windows phone text function, does apple do any apps similar? (For when Im back on the road!)

We are not talking about texting your pals here...often some messages are discussing contracts, or if guys are stuck with something onsite etc etc or a client confirming you have just won that big job you priced....Granted its still texting, but its not like Im browsing Facebook to see what my buddies are up to.

Anyway, lesson hopefully will be learned this time, few changes within business to cope with demand and hopefully will also reduce stress.

Iphone will only do it if it is jailbroken apparently.

Can get a cheap Windows Phone for less than 100 quid, just swap the sim over when on the road.

Sounds like you are just making up excuses to me, how many serious business discussions take place by text.

You would be surprised, In my line of work, it works well..I have details of most conversations etc on text, which can easily be found if needed. Dealing with so many different people, its actually a good way to keep track of things.

Just make sure you have good, frequent backups in place in case of dispute.

Again windows phone keeps a continuous backup of your phone including texts messages. (sorry to harp on, but WP is an excellent corporate device)

Maybe better to move from texts to emails? When you stop driving (if you aren't banned for life) you can then open your email and reply to them all.

Interesting stuff but I don't think anyone you veer into or rear end will particularly care.

What's your objection to a driver rather than middle management? It sounds like you quite like being in control, you just can't drive and be in control at the same time (as you've found out) so a driver seems like the perfect choice, you can sit in the back dealing with business and he drives you wherever you want to go. No idea how much drivers cost (probably cheaper than middle management) but I doubt it's that much and would probably means you'd be less stressed I'd imagine.

Sort your business out!
Learn to delegate!
IF you have to be on the phone all the time don't go out in your car!
If you have to go out in your car have someone else deal with phone call and texts.
If you feel you are so important that you believe your are above the law and can put other people's lives at risk you deserve a year's driving ban, hopefully you will learn from it!

OP does not seem to learn with all the points on his licence, I suggest a month in jail to teach him a real lesson on not using a mobile when driving.

That's nice, but you need to make time to answer texts and calls when you're not driving or you need to take on less new contracts, or as you have eventually done juggle things about, simple as that.
Were I your customer, I personally would rather my calls and texts go ignored.

I know we're all being nasty and preachy, that's because this is a serious issue and I think our preachyness has paid off because you've (eventually) done the right thing. I can only encourage you to in future consider your actions, not just in driving but in any situation where you might kill someone, without having to be threatened with punishment first.

How does e-mailing someone about a contract mean you're less likely to have an accident than if you were checking Facebook?

Given that you're that busy on the phone, how much do you really need to be out and about, sounds like you might be better off running the business from the office, which you'll probably be able to do better than at the wheel, and paying someone else to run about for you.
