Neither do I. If it is a long straight section, +100 is certainly required!! And all the 'obey the speed limit' devotees can bugger off, go re-arrange your paper clip collection or something.
So how far do you get between tickets? Approximately 7 miles would be my guess.robinessex said:

That sucks, but I've never understood why anyone does that sort of speed.. You're in 3 point territory (78-94ish?) for little gain... Guess it was the very long straight stretch approaching Beaconsfield from the M25.

A question to the OP what speed does he think it is fair to be done at then? You were 12 miles over the stated speed limit, do you think it should be 20, 30 miles over?
Kind of agree with that - speedo would have been showing 85+ too. Here (NZ) we get a strictly enforced 5mph tolerance, reduced to 2mph during holidays, that's coupled with a 62mph maximum speed limit and highway patrol officers with big ticket issue quotas. Nice scenery, barmy road rules.

...but that's perfect for the retired police officers who run these cameras as they scoop up candidates to keep the speed awareness courses other retired police officers run.The worst thing for them is to catch people who don't qualify for an awareness course with because they've done one before or they're going too fast. They don't get to keep the money from those.
Colleague of mine got done at 81 on the M40 near Oxford a couple of months ago. I drive it now with cruise set at 75.

There is already some leniency set in law on speed. You can go 9mph over the motorway speed limit without any prosecution.
Not quite so I believe. If you are referring to the acpo guidelines they say that at 10%+2, the discretion not to give a ticket is taken away.So set your cruise control to 78 using the sat Nav. Set it to 79 at your peril!!

82 in a 70 limit, I really don't know what you are complaining b, you took a chance and got caught.
Same here. I may not agree with the rules, but there isn't a lot to get upset about if the limit is clear and you get caught/punished.Alex said:

I'm with the OP. It's outrageous that the cops are wasting time zapping motorists on motorways.
Alex, There is problem with muggings, Plod do a purge on mugging, There's an upsurge in burglary, the Plod do a purge on burglary. Are you suggesting if there is a surge or noticable increase in speeding the police should do nothing, Or should you blame the speeders who have caused the police to have to take action and waste 'scarce' resources on tacking the issue ?I'm with the OP. It's outrageous that the cops are wasting time zapping motorists on motorways.

Motorist drives at 82mph on 70mph road
Motorist is aware of the 70mph speed limit
Motorist receives fine for speeding
Motorist is then 'peeved'
I must be missing something here
Your right, I have no problem sticking the CC on at 70 and get on with life.Motorist is aware of the 70mph speed limit
Motorist receives fine for speeding
Motorist is then 'peeved'
I must be missing something here
Most of us do 20 in 20, 30 in 30, 40 in 40, 50 in 50, and 60 in 60, so why is it so difficult doing 70 in 70, knowing that an infringement will cost you, and do you save any time?, not really.
If your on a dual carriageway NSL, do you do 82? If I did, and got caught I would bite the bullet and pay up.

As others have said, caught at 82mph means more like 90 on the speedo, so not entirely sure what the OP is peeved at?
For the sake of consistency I'm sure you are fine for people with under-reading speedos to break the speed limit.Or possibly the reading on the speedo is entirely irrelevant and it's the actual speed that matters.

Nothing about safety / breaking the law but its easy pickings and revenue generation. They leave a section of motorway for a while let people get cocky on it and then bam cameras.... doenst take long to get a decent take. M40 was always known for a bit lax with the speeding enforcement. Much like the M6 toll was for a few years after it opened to get drivers to use it. I believe the routine let go was 90 or about 100 on the speedo. people got used to it and then it got harvested. You go on that road now and every one is trundling along and the road is empty.....I'm with the OP. It's outrageous that the cops are wasting time zapping motorists on motorways.

Well no, not really.Or possibly the reading on the speedo is entirely irrelevant and it's the actual speed that matters.
A speedo is not allowed to under-read, so that means said vehicle shouldn't be on the road. If they don't even have a legal speedo there is no telling what else is wrong with their car.
But it is a fair point. Very few have calibrated speedo's, so as they all over-read to some extend, 82mph will see the needle close to 90mph - ya risk it, ya lose it ya pays ya fine.

The police don't care what your speedo reads. Speeding is an absolute offence, intent doesn't matter.
If you're very worried about breaking the law or you want to stay just inside the threshold for procesution then get your speedo calibrated.

Sanctimonious ! What utter bks, most of us have been caught speeding at some time, some more than others, most don't then come here and bleat about getting caught, we know the limits and sometimes choose to ignore them, it is a choice.I'm with the OP. It's outrageous that the cops are wasting time zapping motorists on motorways.
Have you ever heard of personal responsibility ?
You fk up and get caught you take the consequences and don't be a fking cry baby about it.
