Apologies fellow Pistonheads but there is an element of venting off with this one.

Notice of intended prosecution received today for doing 82 on the M40. And as I've already had a speed awareness course for doing 33 in a 30 zone (on a motorway contraflow) that means points/penalty

You're having a laff as the fella says. Does anyone go UNDER 80 mph on the M40?

"Attended" i.e. operated camera.

I'm genuinely speechless

That section of the M40 is a well known camera hotspot, and most drivers in the know are usually doing below 80 there.

They've got you bang to rights.

It sucks, but it is what it is. The fact you've been done before would suggest you need to be more careful.

Yes aware 70 is the limit

No not aware a hotspot as not regular enough through the area but I guess I do now

It was a camera van on an overpass and it wasn't exactly hidden, but 80 is so common and I was surrounded by flowing traffic of comparable speed.

Ho hum

Stick to 80 on the speedo and you should be fine as it will over read a tad. If you were caught at 82 you were probably 90 on the speedo, yes wink

Any chance you've still got a copy of your 33 in a 30? Because, with the exception of the odd unproven post, I'm still aware of nobody actually getting done for less than 35 in a 30.

I wonder, OP, whether you could possibly show us the paperwork for the 33 in a 30 zone you mention?

No I don't, and I couldn't swear to 33 or 34 but it was categorically sub 35 as we had a debate about it on the speed awareness course. It was Wales, on a roadworks section on the M4.

Dunno, if something like that happened to me it would tend to stick in my memory.

Nonetheless, that was then and this is now.

Maybe not 90, but no less than 82 actual. Keep it to 80 on the speedo and you'll have better luck on the future, OP.

Yeah it sucks but thats thems the rools.

Everyone cops the odd ticket. Don't let it piss you off. Pay the speeding tax and be more careful next time.

I can recommend doing an Advanced Driving course to help with readjusting your expectations of speed. It certainly helped me clean up my licence. Been clean for years....not that that will last forever!

82 in a 70 limit, I really don't know what you are complaining about, you took a chance and got caught.

Same here. I may not agree with the rules, but there isn't a lot to get upset about if the limit is clear and you get caught/punished.

And the speedo reading was probably nearer 85/86 mph, so no excuses really.

These threads always bring out the sanctimonious "you were breaking the speed limit" brigade, who deliberately miss the point.

I'm with the OP. It's outrageous that the cops are wasting time zapping motorists on motorways.
