Is the Police Federation representative here? Any PH BiB care to comment?
ETA - the poll a little way down the page is disgusting.

I am not too bothered either way, though I was against the change ion Scotland on the grounds of the existing limit being acceptable and it was change for the sake of change.
Drink drivers will drink and drive, regardless of the limit, it will have more affect on people who currently abide by the law, the change in the law in Scotland has certainly stopped both my wife and daughter from having a small glass of wine with lunch as they used to do.

Its just too risky to judge your blood alcohol level on the fly. A large glass of red could put me over the limit if its 14.5%. Plus then I'd likely want another one (and then maybe a curry) LOL.
Much as I hate increased legislation and big brother always thinking of new ways of restricting and clamping down on the citizen (especially if there is money to be made or career prospects involved) for me its either drive or drink - never both.

Got into a landrover with someone who had been drinking.... simple dont drink and drive.
It can and it does go wrong..... and when it does you might not get out the mess alive.
Was the driver's consumption in the 50-80mg/100ml range or was he over the existing limit ?It can and it does go wrong..... and when it does you might not get out the mess alive.
People who drink and drive will always do it. Dropping the limit to 50mg per 100 will not change their habit one iota.
I see it as more Big Brother, Nanny state crap. I admit to having a pint (always followed by a coffee) after a game of golf for the last thirty years, never ever felt it comromised my ability to drive. So here we go again, our so called poxy leaders and righteous career chasing pratts telling me I'll have to change my ways yet again

Ah, but would you be quite sure you're not over the limit the next morning, or even the next afternoon?Much as I hate increased legislation and big brother always thinking of new ways of restricting and clamping down on the citizen (especially if there is money to be made or career prospects involved) for me its either drive or drink - never both.

You're talking about hardened drink drivers who don't bother about the limit now. I suspect the aim of this is to send a message to people saying that it's not ok to have even a single drink and then drive. This then helps to avoid people getting behind the wheel who think they're ok but aren't.I see it as more Big Brother, Nanny state crap. I'm not sure what relevance a coffee afterwards has to your point?

You should have taken the opportunity to blame the EU too .....
It's not politically correct, but I do (as a bulky bloke) have 2 pints of Fosters once a week at a country pub. If I'm drinking nicer stronger lager it means that I have a lift sorted.
I would like to know what the effect has been on Scottish roads in terms of Deaths and Injuries etc since they changed their laws.
ETA - Looking at the worst places, many seem to be in the more rural areas where taxis are not so easy to find.
