It's rather comforting to know that you can safely toot at a police car driver in the UK. I can think of a few many countries where similar would have resulted in a cavity search.

Is this a troll?
you beeped at a police car for not leaving a gap, then freely admit you have absolutely no idea if they were doing anything wrong.

do you regularly beep at other cars for no good reason? or just police cars?

As much as your comment is trolling. rolleyes

Just because something is not illegal, doesn't mean it's not inconsiderate, which is why I tooted at her.

Whether or not something is illegal and/or inconsiderate does not necessarily make it "wrong".

I asked on here for clarification, because of her reaction, as to whether or not what she did was actually legal or not and I have my answer.

Thanks for stopping by.

May I propose that all roundabouts are painted in yellow boxes and surrounded in cameras so they will never be blocked again.
That should resolve all traffic problems

It's pig ignorant but not illegal.
After tying that sentence I can see the irony...

Just because he said something you didn't like doesn't make him a troll.

I think he actually made a pretty good point.

Using your horn to point out what you percieve to be inconsiderate behaviour is not appropriate either.

Exactly what point was that, because I couldn't see one?

The point that you are technically in the wrong and not plod. It might be inferred rather than explicit, but it looked pretty easy to spot to me.

Although its not illegal, inconsiderate driving like that is a big part of what fouls up our roads on a daily basis. If only people drove with a bit of consideration for others.

Classic ones i hate are:
people like the roundabout cop.
shocking road positioning when turning right when a lorry could have got past if they had used some common sense.
bullying your way out of junctions rather than waiting 2 seconds for a gap
dawlders at significantly below the speed limit for no good reason
middle lane morons
lane hoggers generally
At traffic lights in heavy traffic, blocking the whole junction rather than waiting behind the stop line until it is clear to move on over the junction.
People who leave massive gaps in front in stationary traffic for no reason.
Green light dawdlers. Light goes green, then crawls off 10 seconds later so only 1 or 2 cars get through.

It's not that i don't like it, it's that i find it almost unbelievable that there are people out there who beep at any other motorists, let alone a police car without at least being certain they've done something wrong.

But it shouldn't really surprise me, the ones beeping at others on the road are usually the ones who don't seem to know what they are doing.

It was "wrong" in the sense it was bloody inconsiderate in that if the unobservant bint had stopped just one car length earlier I could've carried on with my journey without inconveniencing her in any way. I came on here to get clarification as to whether or not it was actually illegal. Turns out it wasn't. Would I do it again? Yes I would because if somebody is going to drive with no consideration for anyone else out on the road, the least I can do is draw their attention to it in the vain hope it might make them think twice if the situation arises again.

I have sympathy for the inconvenience but breaking the law because somebody inconvenienced you?

And once they've blocked your path, what do you expect them to do when you blow your horn? Reverse on a roundabout?

I actually really dislike drivers using their horn when they shouldn't if I'm on my bike. I think they forget that it's like shouting "Danger look out!" and not "Hi Dave, It's John" or "You're in my way!"

At the risk of repeating my posts, I asked if it was illegal in the same way it is illegal to block someone's driveway, not purely because I was being inconvenienced.

No, I did not expect her to reverse, I was drawing her attention to the fact she had needlessly blocked me in and therefore she should maybe pay a bit more attention to her surroundings and the other drivers she's sharing the road with.

I would certainly have done the same. Well done! Women do tend to have problems with spatial awareness. It is extremely bad form to block junctions and roundabouts and police drivers should set a good example.

Indeed if OP was Black in the US, he'd probably have been shot in the back whilst running from the scene.

I'd forgive you for disliking drivers using their horn when they should do too. It's bloody alarming hearing a car horn, particularly if you're in the outside world where the noise is - walking or cycling for example - rather than insulated inside your own car. If I need to tell somebody that I am here, then I need to know that they are going to receive the message and they are going to perceive it as a very important message. But I do wish that I didn't have to use a device that's going to cause everybody in the vicinity to leap out of their skin. It's important, but it's not so important that I need everybody's bowels evacuated this instant.

OMG, 3 pages for an OP who needs to 'get a life' and learn to cope with the high traffic densities these days and to realise that not everyone is a perfect driver, although he clearly thinks he is!
