I suspect they're getting confused with the Law in Scotland where being caught for speeding at 100mph+ usually also brings a charge of dangerous driving, even if no accident/incident was caused.
Sorry but this is nonsense. Getting caught driving at over 100mph in Scotland does not usually result in a charge of dangerous driving. There is no fixed speed where a charge of dangerous driving will be libeled, it will be entirely dependent on the circumstances.

Details noted down for purpose of raising a summons.
as the speed was 100+ they aren;t going to give you a conditional offer of Fixed Penalty ...

you would have been 'cautioned' at the time and part of the conversation / interview under caustion you would have been given a verbal NiP ...

It means a nice trip to the court to see the judge so he can give you a nice big fine and take your licence away for a while.
A judge in the magistrates' court? Possible I suppose, but unlikely. Nice big fine? That depends if he has a high income - as the fine is income based. Loss of licence? 100 isn't a big deal, 101+ would be trickier as that would put him in a different sentencing category.
judge in mags - aren't Stipes now considered District Judges ...

There aren't many District Judges (Magistrates' Courts). Full list: https://www.judiciary.gov.uk/about-the-judiciary/w... and they tend to be concentrated in metropolitan areas. It's safe to say that lay magistrates deal with at least 90% of all work and there are usually three of them per case, rather than "a magistrate" as often posted on this forum. District Judges sit alone.

N.b. There are about 330 magistrates courts in England and Wales.

Especially in the land of kilts and haggis. Up there 100+ is pretty much an automatic ban.
The PFs take a dim view of you going too quick to enjoy the scenery and the courts tend to agree. smile

My father is 86 now and this happened a few years after he retired at 55.As far as I remember he got flashed by a speed camera and was sent the details by post and had to fill out a form regarding his earnings and did not have to go to court and was sent the fine of just over 5k by post which he paid.I think his pension was about 500k a year.
very unlucky to be caught by a speed camera in the mid-80s.

Once again this is complete nonsense. Plenty of people get caught in excess of 100 in Scotland and don't get banned. 100 is only 5mph above the cut off for an FPN, a few miles an hour doesn't result in you jumping from 3 points and a £100 fine to an automatic ban.
