And he knows where you live too...People always seem to fear revenge attacks by criminals but I suspect that 99% of the time they wouldn't do anything to draw any more unwanted attention to themselves. Why would they? What have they got to gain part from the Police now being interested in them?

Do you have definitive proof they are yours?
Without giving away too much information the wheels are custom and have certain markings on them which match up to pictures he's sent.Oh and become stabproof for the visit and then sell the car because it will never be safe in your ownership again while this chap is around.

Your 99% is a bit optimistic in my experience having grown up with several people (families, in fact) who are career small time criminals. I've not had trouble with them myself, but know plenty about their antics.
Obviously OP might be dealing with a real minor league scrote who wants to keep out of view. He might, on the other hand, be dealing with the type I'm talking about who have nothing better to do with their time than make sure they never lose face with their fellow scrotes, however that might be ensured.
Who knows...
I'm certainly not saying he shouldn't go about getting his property back, by the way...
Can't understand why the police would not be interested. If this guy has a history of selling wheels on a certain site then it would be in everyone's interest (including the police) to get him off the streets. At best it would put a stop to his future plans to steal and be pro active of the police in doing so.

They won't give a toss about your wheels.
Too much hassle for them.

I had a car stolen many years ago in Leeds. The wheels on the car were custom made and very unique. The wheels re-appeared for sale a few years later. However they were battered and worthless. I asked for photos and info on the wheels and the seller had "owned" them for longer than when they were stolen but had no info on the wheels at all. I was certain the seller wasn't an innocent party and they were my wheels.
Long story short I decided to leave it. I had already been paid out with insurance and mentally accepted my loss (to a degree). Plus I had no idea who to expect if I went to see him, or how many and what I'd do if I got hold of him - one of us would have taken a serious kicking and it was never going to end well. The gain wasn't worth the associated risk.
It depends on what the wheels are worth to you? But seeing as you've not already been to collect them shows me your not the crazy, irrational, neamderthal type and I'm guessing you don't know many heavies in your circle of friends.
Call the police, ask them to turn up with you to keep the peace, or forget it and move on. Life's to short.
(For reference If I had found my wheels days after being nicked I'd have been down in a heartbeat).

+1I have been amazed at how many theft cases they can't be arsed with.
A mate had his car stolen from a bodyshop where it was at as it needed some work, and according to the police it was 'a civil matter' and they wouldn't do anything

Regardless of legalities, if you go, go very mob handed and if you have any scary looking friends, take then too.

Big friends for a job like that.

Go mob handed or don't go at all. For all you know this guy won't be alone either.
Don't go alone.
The police will act if you inform them however there are no guarantees they will act quick enough (it probably isn't a high priority) and the wheels could be sold by the time they get round to paying the guy a visit.

I have come across this before, get the police involved and by the time they get around to paying a visit the goods are long gone, one way or another.I'm not advocating any one or other specific course of action but it would be quite unusual to actually get the wheels back without going round to collect them, and soon. Remember too that the person now holding the wheels may well be reading this, if they are into their cars.
