Added to that, in the USA, ramming a Police car brings an additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon in a lot of states which carries a much bigger sentence than failing to stop/evading police.


Sky news showed a curious USA car chase the other day:

A driver was evading the Police on a Freeway, refusing to stop whilst driving at 5~10mph because he was scared of getting involved in a high speed chase.

The police followed him for over an hour at these speeds, blocking the road off behind him with patrol cars, and making no effort to stop him.

After an hour or so, with the freeway ahead long since cleared as the traffic ahead had simply left the chase behind and no other traffic could get past the rolling road block, the driver decided to speed up to 50~60mph, at which point the Police decided to ram him off the road!

Now watching the footage, I couldn't help wondering why, whilst he was driving at 5~10mph and with the freeway ahead completely free of traffic, the police didn't simply set up a road block all across the freeway and block his path?

Added to that, with a four lane freeway to play with, and at such slow speeds, why didn't they simply go round him and TPAC him to a halt?

At the end of the footage they showed the Thousands of motorists caught up in the massive tail-back that the chase had created and I couldn't help wondering how many of those motorists were wondering the exact same thing: Why let it go on for over an hour at those speeds? (And some would have probably wondered why the Police didn't simply shoot the driver and save everyone else all the grief, stress and aggravation of being caught up in the tailback).

(It turned out the driver was high on meth-amphetamine at the time and was slightly delusional!)

Everyone know us police want them to get out and run on foot so they can see if their black and in which case shoot them in the back.
