Is this legal - Surely bad advice?
Discussion
I don't watch many TV ads, but saw this Aviva Drive App one featuring Paul Whitehouse.......

AFAIK the only device visible should be a sat nav - so what is the legal position on putting a phone in a (in this case) position obscuring the view ahead? I can see this sort of thing being a major distraction rather than encouraging safety. Mobile phones in cars are one of the fatal 4, and shouldn't be encouraged! I can't believe an insurance co is advocating this (or maybe I can in Aviva's case!)

What happens if you use your phone as a satnav? Ive never heard of a satnav being the only thing that can be attached to a windscreen.
Edit; I should add, I do agree with you about the positioning of the phone in that video. It looks like it blocks a huge part of the drivers view.

Yes, legal when used as a sat nav, but as a 'driver aid'????Edit; I should add, I do agree with you about the positioning of the phone in that video. It looks like it blocks a huge part of the drivers view.

The phone is not actually mounted in the A zone, it's in the middle of the windscreen. It looks like it's slap in the middle of the view, because the camera is looking down the middle, but i's not a mclaren F1, so that's not where the driver is sitting
I'm not sure what this law which allows a satnav to obscure the view is, as far as i am aware nothing which substantially restricts the view of the driver is allowed, and applies the same to anything satnav, phone or nodding cat.

That's why he only scored 7.2. They marked him down for bad positioning of the phone.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctkQRt2HzIE

Fair dos
I'm quite curious about the app. Could I use it on my bus which already has a driving monitor thing already fitted and as such I have one of the lowest event (less events the better) scores in the depot?
Would they take that as my safety score for their insurance quote or would they realise I had done it in a bus instead of my car?
