Baiting to speed by unmarked plod?
Discussion
So I was coming back down the motorway, clear road, middle of the day, 'possibly' a bit over the limit, but under 3 digits. I notice a beemer hoon up and wanting past, I duly pulled into lane 2 then the beemer pulled in and started to slow down, I kept my distance and slowed too but still over current limits, I was happy to ease off. Then I noticed what appeared to be small camera's or lights just behind the rear headrests. Umm anyway I kept my distance and we 'convoyed' for a good 10 minutes, with me behind him, dutifully following him into lane one when traffic allowed, all the while a good chunk over the limit. Then he lights up and hoons off like a scorched cat...was I being baited to overtake him so he could pull me? All a bit weird (and a few weeks ago now so not wondering what might drop through the door)

No. You're unlikely to get a FPN. Same thing happened to me twice on the M62 earlier this year.
First time I took the bait-lights went on, a seat in the back of their car and watch the video. Got 3 points for 96 mph. 2ND time I resisted and got a 20 mile, 15 min escort into Hull from the grey BMW335d.
If they'd have got the evidence and/or the inclination, they'd have turned on the hidden grille lights and pulled you up.

why do some people think everything in the world is about them?
car overtakes me, they're baiting me into speeding, no they're not the world does not revolve around me
What you on about? I just thought it unusual for an unmarked car to overtake me, then slow down considerably whilst still driving at speed limit plus, and I come onto a driving forum and specifically a speed part of that forum to share and ask if others had experienced the same. You sir seem to be a dingle danglecar overtakes me, they're baiting me into speeding, no they're not the world does not revolve around me

You're just jealous because he's in the 100 month club with only 197 posts aren't you ?
Which straight away sets alarm bells ringing about the veracity of the thread. Compounded by it starting with "So.........." Just like any good teenager of today. So if it is true, I don't see what the OP's problem is. So a Police car overtook him whist he was speeding. So it then slowed down, so he slowed down too. So then it continued at a pace over the speed limit that were happy with. So he didn't get done. So all's good. So where's the baiting? So, so, so ,so.

A more positive slant:
He caught you speeding and instead of pulling you over at any of the times you were observed over the limit he thought he'd see what your awareness skills were like, and whether you'd take the hint. You did, perhaps by luck than good judgement, and he let you know you were being observed by revealing that he was Plod.
Everyone comes out ahead. Yet, sadly, it seems it's been construed as "baiting" or "entrapment" - a concept that doesn't exist in Law over here.

A true tale Loon, I just came on to ask if others had experienced anything similar. I have no problem with the outcome, the baiting reference was to the fact that he had slowed considerably, and could have been construed as an encouragement to re-overtake. I do wonder sometimes about the often pomposity and pettiness of some of the replies from the 'ooo I've got 15,000+ posts on PH's' gang, a chap just wants to share an incident/ story or suchlike and the vernacular police come down like a ton of bricks. (that takes me to 200 in 10 years or so do get a sticker)
That's fair enough. I think you've had the answer though, which is that they dropped you to a speed they were happy with and let you know to stick to it. I do wonder about low post counts and long membership when schools are out though, as the tales get more and more fantastic. Please stop using "so" as a way to start a sentence, let alone a discussion, it's very Zuckerberg and extremely annoying.
