I think you used quality as your justification. Anyway, as you seem to have taken a dislike to me that's fine, I'll leave you be. I look forward to more of your anecdotes.

So I was coming back down the motorway, clear road, middle of the day, 'possibly' a bit over the limit, but under 3 digits. I notice a beemer hoon up and wanting past, I duly pulled into lane 2 then the beemer pulled in and started to slow down, I kept my distance and slowed too but still over current limits, I was happy to ease off. Then I noticed what appeared to be small camera's or lights just behind the rear headrests. Umm anyway I kept my distance and we 'convoyed' for a good 10 minutes, with me behind him, dutifully following him into lane one when traffic allowed, all the while a good chunk over the limit. Then he lights up and hoons off like a scorched cat...was I being baited to overtake him so he could pull me? All a bit weird (and a few weeks ago now so not wondering what might drop through the door)
Why would you follow possible_plod at over the posted limit? Poor judgement on your part. Plod would have probably measured your speed before you even saw him in your mirrors.

Loon don't be so sensitive, I've not taken a dislike to you, but I find it rather patronising to be referred to as a teenager (I'm 45 FFS!) and to be told how to write short internet prose. I'm sure others who fail the grammar, spelling and punctuation test often feel the same. No hard feelings and I will try harder next time. read

You were taking the piss, he stopped you taking the piss. Fair bit of coppering if you ask me.

I've had similar , and appreciated the lesson.
This.

It's when they tailgate you & try to push you to go faster that they are baiting you. I've had that too.
Me too - severe tailgating from marked and unmarked Bib. Not often, but it happens.

Have had similar quite a few times and personally wished I had been able to congratulate said plod for applying discretion after monitoring my driving style and seeing that I was not driving dangerously or aggressively, just making progress.

It's the way "so" has crept into every day use to start a huge amount of sentences. It's a great way to start a sentence to summarise, but it seems to be used all the time by an ever increasing number of people. I'm not a grammar nazi, far from it, this is just a bugbear of mine.

That's fair enough. I think you've had the answer though, which is that they dropped you to a speed they were happy with and let you know to stick to it.

I do wonder about low post counts and long membership when schools are out though, as the tales get more and more fantastic. Please stop using "so" as a way to start a sentence, let alone a discussion, it's very Zuckerberg and extremely annoying.
Loon me old mucka, you need to get some treatment.

I do understand, I grew up with an older sister who was an early adopter of the vacuous 'like' Americanism 20+ years ago, it drills through me to my very core! Thankfully my three girls are immune but taking a car load of their friends anywhere almost reduces me to tears now that 'like' comes in sentences ending with an Australian inflection...I do realise that this might sound hypocritical of me!

A more positive slant:

He caught you speeding and instead of pulling you over at any of the times you were observed over the limit he thought he'd see what your awareness skills were like, and whether you'd take the hint. You did, perhaps by luck than good judgement, and he let you know you were being observed by revealing that he was Plod.

Everyone comes out ahead. Yet, sadly, it seems it's been construed as "baiting" or "entrapment" - a concept that doesn't exist in Law over here.
This was my initial thought too. Unmarked cars seemingly go after big fish and not people who are driving slightly over the limit on clear days. I expect he overtook you and slowed you down, I also expect that if you had overtaken him he would have given you a pull for the cheek of it hehe

I don't doubt for a second that Plod have baited drivers to break speed limits, but in this instance I doubt it was the case.

If you are annoyed by bad grammar and punctuation (not to mention misused words), you won't enjoy most PH threads, the Guardian or the BBC.

You have to resist the urge to start making basic mistakes just to 'fit in'.

A friend of mine (who has a 1st class degree from a good university) called me a snob recently because I said 'In which car was that?' rather than 'What car was that in?'. I hope there are still people apart from me who hear that second form of the question and imagine a toddler saying it. Why be less accurate than you can be, especially where the correct form requires no more words and is no harder to say?

Back on topic - I imagine that all the twunts that tailgate me are coppers trying to goad me into speeding. They'll never catch me, though, coz I am fking innocent!

(By the way, Loon, you shouldn't use 'amount' when referring to discrete units or instances. Using a phrase like 'A higher amount of cats' is semi-literacy.)

They may well bait drivers but they sure don't tow them along with a rope or tractor beam.

I didn't claim to be part of the grammar police, or a perfectionist. I just pointed out one of the new trends that annoys me.

Of course it wasn't in this case, they didn't stop him. They just gave a friendly warning.

Most likely they overtook you & slowed you down to a more acceptable over-the-limit speed.
I expect if you had decided to ignore the hint & set off again you'd have been pulled & ticketed/reported depending on the speed.
Gave you a chance rather than just doing you at the first opportunity.
Sounds like a reasonable crew.
