I didn't claim to be part of the grammar police, or a perfectionist. I just pointed out one of the new trends that annoys me.
Using a singular verb with a plural subject isn't another of the new trends that annoy you? wink
Urrrmm... care needed: as I read it the subject is "one of the new trends", which is singular.
Think of it this way: There are several trends that annoy him; this trend is one of them. Therefore it is one of the several trends that annoy him. Or, of the several trends that annoy him, this is one.
Which bit of "I don't claim to be part of the grammar police, or a perfectionist ........." has passed you by? I'm guessing your raging hard on for me is now blinding you to what I'm actually saying and you just want to head off on your own tangent as usual.

Let me explain simply. I find the use of the word "so", to start a sentence, paragraph and especially a new topic to be very annoying. That's all. I'm sure many linguists would take issue with my use of the English language, but I don't care.

I had a undercover do this to me, right up my rear end, even swerving out into the oncoming lane pretending he was going to overtake. This was around midnight in a 30mph limit.

It got irritating after a while so I sped up a little and just didn't brake for corners, eventually he caught up and put on the blues. Questioned me multiple times to admit my speed to which I replied "don't know" - he went on his way.

Epitomising how one might go off on a tangent, for no obvious reason you criticised another PHer's perfectly normal use of the English language.

If you're going to criticise a person's use of the language, it is probably wise to do so without making an error yourself.

I pointed this out in a light, ironic way, ending my brief comment with the symbol ( wink ) that is meant to convey, "no offence intended". I believe that most people would have interpreted my comment thus.

I apologise for being unaware of your sensitivity to gentle but well-founded criticism.
