Hi all

I was flashed by a speed camera in Bromley (london) today, I believe I was doing about 36 in a 30. If a "Intent to prosecute" Letter comes through within 14 days does anyone have any advice how to beat it?

I am 20 and have had my licence since march 2014 with no points and warnings.

Does anyone have any meaningful advice?

Thanks

You won't beat it.

Take it like a man, pay the fine, put it down to experience.

Maybe I should, cross my fingers and hope they offer a speed awareness course.

Do any of you know or have any idea how it would effect my insurance? considering the length of time I've held my license?

Thanks

Sorry if this sounds a bit patronising but why do you think there is even an option of dodging the ticket if you were banged to rights?

No not at all, I was hoping that someone would have some way of getting out of it, technical issues with camera etc
Just trying to make the best of what could be a costly lapse in concentration.

I'm based near you and first came to the site for exactly the reason of your OP about 8 years go...flashed by a scamera in Bromley.

Which one was it and which direction were you travelling in?

Simple, don't speed. But if you do, don't get caught.

Or you'll be up on the cross shouting "I'm Brian, and so's my wife!" before you know it wink .

How will it affect your license?

It won't, as you haven't got a license.

Why are there so many of these threads these days? Why can't people just take responsibility for their actions and learn rather than trying to beat the system.

OP, pay fine/driver awareness, take the hike in insurance and learn from it.

You'll get a speed awareness course for 36. It shouldn't have any effect on your insurance if you don't seek insurance from insurers who ask about SACs.

Perhaps because they consider speed limits to be law that is poorly conceived and inappropriately enforced?

But trying to find loop holes in them is not how to go about it. Especially in 30 zones where your driving could be perfectly fine but a child running out between cars is then entirely reliant on your speed.

Agreed a lot of limits are inappropriately enforced, but I have no sympathy for drivers in 30 zones.

Completely agree with this comment, so just came in to +1

to the OP, you have 14 days to wait, that is your only chance to "dodge" it, if it doesnt arrive then learn your lesson and amend your driving

I guess it's because of the attitude taken to parking fines not being enforceable if you write the correct letter in response.

Yes, indeed, assuming that we're talking about a "proper" 30, as opposed to either a very long, unpopulated run-in to a proper built-up area, or an unpopulated space between two separate built-up areas.
Put another way, there is no justification for going >50 in a proper built-up area, but there are plenty of examples of 30s that should not be 30.

Thankfully there are still people seeking to question and fight state sponsored robbery like speed cameras, parking tickets, false premise green taxes, gimps looking at cctv monitors focussed on ends of buslanes, awkward junctions etc.

If we had more folks with fight in them instead of handsup johnnies everywhere these swivel eyed officials would start to think twice before implementing impossible to justify nonsense like automated speed policing on an industrial scale purely to bloat the state.

The OP here is showing a refreshing appetite for fight that we should applaud.

However, because of the widespread lack of fight we have I'm afraid the OP is screwed assuming the camera was loaded with film (and a gatso rear facing taking the photo from behind and if nip arrives in 14 days)

a lapse in concentration could have been even more costly to someone else had you injured or killed them.
