Some years ago council converted the tennis court 25m from my garden boundary into a skatepark with at first two, followed later by a third steel ramp.
Its hardly been used for years but recently hoards of micro scooter riders have adopted it as good fun.

Its like living in a Harland and Wolff shipyard.

Following our complaints to council, parky now locks skatepark at night which is an improvement and local PCSO has tried to reduced foul language shouting issues but we've still got this noise for up to 13.5 hours a day.

Enviro Health have dutifully tested and confirmed a "statutory noise nuisance" but solution is less clear.
Suggestions of soundproofing ramps by spraying foam inside and/or relocating skate park away from houses cost money and time. As such we are being told to suffer it until whenever funding has been found and changes completed.

Am I being unfair in suggesting that they close and lock the skateboard park pending finding a solution? Anyone know a good solicitor who can prod the council into action? I'm going to have to move out over the summer holiday!

Appreciate your annoyance but would you rather they be on your front? scraping up and down kerbs and between cars?

That's a great attitude.

'I don't like the noise of people having fun and so I'm going to do my damnedest to see if I can shut it down as it's annoying me'

Don't worry about the kids who are probably chuffed that they've got somewhere to go with their mates, call a solicitor/the police and have them banned!

OP, i think here is the solution. The poster above said you can move the skate park next to his house smile

As an aging BMX rider the space to ride without harassment from Plod/Grannies/Dicks is a blessing.

However the noise can be a pain.

Here's a wild idea. Find out what the cost of the move/alterations is going to cost. See who else has an issue with noise and work with them and the skaters to raise the money for the work.

You'd be surprised how open they might be to getting a better space and also metal ramps are horrible and noisy. A new concrete park further from houses but still safe might be what they need.

This.

Be sensitive their needs, and they're more likely to be sympathetic to yours. Go talk to them, find out if they'd be interested in working with you to get a more suitable facility built. Get them on side, and you might find they're more willing to tone down the language without the need for PCSO to police them.

Otherwise you're just going to seem to be a miserable old g*t complaining because they have nothing else to do.

Its been BMX users for years which hasn't been a problem. The main issue now is the solid wheeled micro scooters.
I have engaged with the users in the past but there are many sub-groups now using the ramps at different times that its difficult.

I work a varied shift pattern and after night shifts can't sleep unless its pissing down (hence quiet).

I wouldn't be impressed if I bought a house over looking tennis courts and the council turned it into a skate park either. They will be turning your local Sainsburys into a Netto next.

Also not much chance of a scooter rider wearing a short skirt either.

I feel sorry for kids/youths these days.

When they sit inside and play on the xbox/PS4 all day everyone whinges.

When they go outside to the skatepark everyone whinges.

I reckon its just everyone getting old and turning into miserable bds, trying to find something to complain about. hehe

In my neck of the woods the put the skateboard / BMX park under a motorway flyover.

Nobody can complain about the skateboarders making the noise.

Elaborate noise sensitive sprinkler system is the obvious answer.

Nothing has changed from 20 or even 30 years ago, the games were a lot less immersive but no less addictive. And middle aged people were no less miserable or self righteous.

If someone turned a tennis court into a skatepark at the back of my house, I'd be royally pissed off OP, so I sympathise.

I'm sure those posters here criticising you would love it to happen to them....

As suggested above, work with people rather than against them and you'll likely have more success. Engaging a solicitor and campaigning to have it shut down now will likely just gain you enemies.

Bring solutions, not problems. If there's a way to keep everyone happy (i.e sound-deadening) suggest it and fight for that rather than the closure and re-location.

For use only when the kids on the solid-wheeled bikes are present though, and not when the quiet ones are there?? wink

(I'm not sure it will work effectively at a distance of 25m, but as you're asking for possible solutions... hehe )

This will be your best path.

Exactly the approach we took years ago but from the other side, we were the skaters. Rather than be chased around by the authorities and getting injured on remote industrial sites, we approached the local 'council' and asked to work with them, parents and potential sponsors to build a park somewhere suitable. Everybody wins, someone profits and usually the wrong person takes all the credit but everyone got a good deal....

....Apart from me, snapped my arm in half a few weeks before it opened and got the 'fear' taking too long in recovery to get back on the horse quick enough! Regardless, it was a cool place to hang out, safe, clean and the local skate shops and music culture flourished distracting teens from more nefarious activities.

Might be a nice little side project for you?

In the town near me, when a skateboard park was proposed a few years ago, all parties concerned were consulted first - residents, boarders, local businesses and eventually a location was found away from homes and shops but close enough for kids to walk to it. No noise or nuisance problems and a safe place for the kids.

I can never understand why these type of consultations are not done everywhere - seems to me everyone gains..
