Would I want the aggro of ex buyer knocking my door. Looking for their money back? Nope.
If the tyres needed replacing, why not do it anyway? Op also stated he was looking to do some of the work anyway regardless, so now some idiot has lined his pocket and paid for the work to be done whilst keeping the £2k.
£2k might be pocket change to you powerfully built director types but I wouldn't want the drama of holding onto another persons cash not knowing anything about them.
