Why do you consider 120 to be dangerous?

The first criterion has come up before. It's subjective, therefore a bks piece of law making.
Not that it's at all relevant to the argument, as I've given the absolute definition of dangerous driving above, but I would consider driving at 120 mph without knowing it to be extremely dangerous, for many reasons, primarily because the situation will change considerably quicker than anticipated and the forces invovled at that speed are immense.

I'm sorry, you just said in that quote, 120 blink of an eye, no effort etc etc.

We just concluded that was complete BS....
You've not driven a diesel, have you?...smile
What does the fuel type have to do with it? confused

Anyway you cut it, you're going to notice accelerating to 120 mph, whether you do it slowly or quickly. If you don't, it's the definition of dangerous driving.
The only real difference in the A8 is you'll be travelling 25M/s quicker. On a deserted motorway at night you could easily be going much quicker than you think. In the Griff you'll *know* you're doing it whatever.

Some cars are designed to mask the sensation of speed, others are not.
So you admit that you have to ignore that objects are passing you 50 mph faster than they do at the speed limit as well as the fact that you have to accelerate to that speed in the first place, which assuming you do it gradually, is going to take more than 15 seconds, regardless of power.

Those are two factors that I cannot (and never have in 18 years of driving) overlooked.

I would question the driving ability of someone who could.
That's because you haven't been driving for very long. The offer of coming out with a more experienced driver still stands thumbup

If you can't tell the difference between 70 mph and 120 mph, I'll steer well clear, thanks very much. thumbup

What's the matter, run out of words over which to argue the definition?

Or is it just past your bedtime?

What's so funny?

I think it'd be fair to say a GTR would destroy an M5. Ditto my road bike.

Or do you think I made it up? I'll make a video amd post it if you want, I'll even put a some words in there of your choice to prove its me

Are you sure your GT-R has the right kind of torque, it's not a diesel, after all? winklaugh

Bizarre isn't it.

It is funny how they desperately cling onto the argument that heading to 50 mph over the speed limit on a motorway can happen in the blink of eye and subconsciously too. I was messing a output with some McLarens ahead of a day on track for them with Joe Public at Donington, now they can shift, but you still have to give them a push.

The GT-R is my best mates and pure coincidence, the M3 Comp Pack is mine and both of them need a shove to get going

My road bike amd my rave bike are similarly mad, but again they don't randomly head off at speeds all of their own making. I have to make them do it.

Didn't say that though did you? Your rather predictable response was:

What's funny is the schoolboy 'my-mates-car-will-destroy-your-M5', and I don't even own one. smile

Never gave the matter a second thought TBH.

Go on then. Skyline vs F10 M5. I'd say GTR up to 100 then the M5 pulls away. Remember before you ps off the //M boys trying cheap insults - I don't own one lol

What are you going on about.

I own an M3 Comp Pack. You dismissed that out of hand as "have you ever been in an M5", so I used my mates GT-R. I'm not racing on the roads. I'll happily post 80-120 times on my own in a low gear amd a high gear on both. To be clear. I'll say those words, but I'm. It racing an M5 as that's a world of grief if caught.

If you don't own an M5, I'd suggest being a bit quieter, few M5 owners would really want to take on an GT-R in the real world. I can say that as I am an "//M boy" whatever the fk that is.

I'm really sorry I've compromised your male pride by suggesting your M3 (masterpiece ffs) is torqueless, but you need to see my comment in the context it was said: That's it's quite possible when driving a new fast car to be surprised by its speed. This is more likely in a German luxury car with lots of torque, not an M3, something like an M5 or AMG of some description. Please, I know this won't be easy but try not to see this comment as a personal attack on your car - or your mates GTR - or your big fast motorbike, the fact is they're not relevant to the topic under discussion.

Why would you use more words, when a clear, concise and easily interpretable two words will do? It was hardly some esoteric police-acronym or obfuscated 'management speak'.
laugh I'm sure you must have noticed the irony in your post but just thought you'd post anyway.

Didn't you?

NB Don't actually see the point in your comment? The words the poster used amused me, and you don't think they should have done - was that it? smile

What a bizarre discussion.

You are the driver not the effing passenger, of course you can tell how fast you are going, cars have a clever device to provide this information if you cant get an idea from the rate at which you go past things.

Seriously, as a driver, if you cant tell what speed you are doing given all of the evidence around you, then really you should be taking the train.

I'm with LoonR1 on this one. My E55 has nearly 770ft lbs (1050nm for you 335d lovers) of torque at 2500rpm, seeing as 70mph is about 2000-2100rpm even if you don't change gear it's still about 6-8ish seconds to 120. While it's easy to do, you still notice you've done it, mostly because all traffic is now going backwards. So saying "it can happen in a split second" or "you wouldn't notice it" is utter nonsense. I can sneeze and go from 70-80, that usually takes less than a second, which is enough to get you pulled, but 70-120 is noticeable.

+1

If you are driving at 120mph and think you are pootling along at 70, you probably need more help than just your licence taken away!

So, when you're driving along, how accurately can you lot judge your speed without looking at the speedo?

I can get within 5mph but I always work it out by engine noise and remembering which gear I'm in. By just looking at the scenery I wouldn't be confident of guessing very closely at all (above 80mph lets say, it's a lot easier to judge the speed limits since I'm forced to practice that). This is what makes me believe that driving a quiet car, with a linear power output would make it even tougher to judge speed.
