Maybe it was you! It was dark so can't be sure on colour. 2 officers, one female the other male. Male was driving and I was stopped at the top of the hill on the a31. The female booked me while the male officer checked the car and noted the front tyres were low.
Ah it wasn't me. You were stopped by a dark blue 3 series though. We have a few.
This post makes me chuckle; the tone of the post makes me suspect HantsRat knows a little more about it than just the model and colour of the car.

Means tested fine up to £2500 and either up-to 56 days on the bus under a short term disqualification or 6 points on your licence.

Close, but no cigar.

I'd expect he doesn't. He has said he knows the model and colour because he drives them for a living ...

Yes agreed. I'm sure they all compare the sizes of their catch

OP by the time this gets to court your Mrs will be close to 7 months gone. Tell the magistrate that your Mrs is livid with you as you might need to get her to hospital at rather short notice. Apologise profusely and hope for the best.

What the hell are you driving that can get from 70 ish to 120 MPH in a fraction of a second?
My weekend car, the ThrustSSC. tongue out

Yeah, maybe "fraction of a second" was hyperbolic. Just meant as crimes go it can take only a few seconds, and feel completely victimless, to result in potentially huge problems in life.
I've driven some pretty powerful cars (400 bhp+) over the years and I can assure you it takes a deliberate and sustained effort to hit 120 mph. It's certainly not something you do accidentally after leaning on the loud pedal a little too hard for a couple of seconds, even with that kind of power.

Most "normal" small cars will struggle to even hit 120 mph regardless of how long you floor it.

Not sure about that. Say he was at an 80mph cruise in something with 400bhp + - it wouldn't take very long at all to squeeze up 40mph. (Not the case here - that car will have taken a while to get up to speed.)

I guess it's one of those cases where the numbers don't really reflect the reality - having your foot to the floor in a normal car (up to say 250 bhp) is a common event. In a car with 400+ bhp it is a big deal.

In a 400+ bhp car, you have to think carefully about putting your foot to the floor, you need to consider the road surface, the space in front of you, steering angle, passenger comfort, possibility of police being around, even noise.

On the rare occasion you do have your foot to the floor, it's only ever for a few seconds, as you can go from a complete standstill to the highest legal limit in the UK (70 mph) in around 5 seconds.

Also bear in mind that to travel at 80 mph in a 400+ car, unlike in a "normal" car, you barely have the throttle open, you might be using 10%-20% throttle as opposed to 50%+ in a normal car, so even the movement of the pedal is more significant in the more powerful car.

Hopefully that explains why having your foot to the floor in a 400+ bhp car for several seconds when you're already travelling at 80 mph is not something you do accidentally.

hehe

This was almost as close as the day after I got my points. Turned up at court the next morning to find that the officer who had nicked me was also there to give evidence on another case - wry grins were exchanged, they were really rather good in giving me 3 points.

After buying my latest car on the way home I turned onto the motorway slip road, pressed the throttle about the same as my previous car while looking to my right at the traffic on the motorway and as I joined the motorway I realised I was doing 115mph that felt like about 70.

Probably best not to admit to something like that on a public forum

Why? Do you really think the police will come knocking and investigate an alleged crime based on a throw away line?

I agree - I remember picking up my RX8 and getting a bit carried away on the way home - looked down and I was doing 116! Easy done when you're having fun!

An E63 AMG or M5 both have in excess of 550bhp. Trust me there's no 'deliberate or sustained effort' involved in hitting 130-140+ in one of those. 70-120? Blink of an eye.

This, even a lowly Vauxhall can do this without noticing. These barges just waft along with feck all feeling of speed smile

I've driven cars with 500+ bhp on track - yes they can put on immense speed "in the blink of an eye", of course they can, but that's not my point!

My point is that you will notice gaining 50 mph in a few seconds, so you won't ever do it accidentally or without noticing!

Frankly, anyone who hits 120 mph without noticing or even trying should hand their licence in at the first opportunity to save the rest of us, whatever the car.
