Just been woken up by half a dozen sodding police cars flying past again, its every fking night. I live in a small road off a main road which is busy at rush hour but at this time of night there is nothing on it as there aren't many houses along it.

However about 5 miles away is a scrote sink estate and I'm not exaggerating when I say the police fly to it sweeney style every night and most Sunday mornings for some reason. Tonight is probably because some idiot has had too much stella, ripped his shirt off and will be waving a knife around the street.

I moved from a town centre a few years ago that had an ambulance station right behind my house, if they got called out at 4 in the morning they would put the sirens on before they had even left the depot. I moved to somewhere quiet and have exactly the same problem Is it some kind of power trip or something, is there really any need to make such a racket late at night, if I made that sort of noise night after night then I would have the council nazis on my back. How can this nuisance be tackled.

If some idiot was waving a knife around in your partner's / child's face, I'm sure you'd want the police there as fast as they can using blues and twos.

make a complaint

if we're lucky in a couple of years we will be able to enjoy the thread about someone complaining about how dangerous it is that the cop cars that come down thier narrow street have now stopped using thier sirens at night, think of the children (who should be at home in bed)

Take a step back and think of how silly you sound. I used to live near the A1, and most nights I'd hear ambulances and police cars jettibg past with sirens on in the dead of night. Made me glad I was safe, tucked up in bed and not on my way to the next emergency.

Try moving to the country, I did. I don't hear any traffic at night now. Can't remember the last time I heard a siren in my village. You could go whole hog and get an isolated farm house.

After 11pm I try not to use mine,If I come across a set of busy reds yes, but most of the time the roads are quiet and we can get there just as quick without. Our new ambulances are that bright you can see the flashing blues or the reflections from them in space!.

Had exactly the same here.
I live opposite an ambulance station and we never hear a peep from them.

11:30 this evening a police car that I heard a mile away at least drove down the road. It's not a main road, it's a quiet, 30 limit road with the odd speed bump and plenty of central reservations.

Given the temp I'm sat with every window in the flat open. So I can hear all the cars go up and down the road. And bloody Kojak decides he needs the siren on from one end of the road to another.
Not joking when I say I heard him from a mile away (at least) and no other cars.

Absolutely no need unless your aim is to wake everyone up and piss everyone off.

I drive a rapid responce vehicle (ambulance). Everything I do is logged, speed, breaking, indicators, normal lights etc. Dash cam, blue (and rear reds) and sirens.

When dispatched to an emergency it is policy to use blue lights all the time. Sirens "as required".

I try very hard not to use sirens at night but, if I have an accident the very first they will look at is "did you have the siren on?"

Night time mean empty roads so you can often travel a lot quicker than during the day. This leads to dilemma of higher speed but no sirens........

No emergency driver uses the sirens (or bull horn) for fun. To be honest, I get sick of the damn noise myself and I'm the one driving!

Well I can sympathise we live on a bend in a main a road heading out of town and between the town and the motorway and a hospital , The EMS use sirens to warn cars around the bend which also has a junction on it of their approach and quite rightly too.
Complaining about it as far as I am concerned puts you on a par with those who move next door to a racetrack and then complain about the noise.
As someone else said just be thankful you don`t need the EMS .... this time!

When I did my Fire Service 'blue lights' training we were told to leave the two-tones on as we got near the fire so that anyone trapped could hear us coming, and perhaps delay jumping for a few more seconds. Ambulances applied the same theory.
The police, however, hope that the protagonists in a chav punch-up will hear the sirens and break it up before they arrive.

Think yourself lucky that you live in a country where you are going to online to complain about sirens of emergency vehicles. I actually had to pinch myself, is this thread for real?

This is the country, well semi rural anyway. There is a town a few miles away where the police come from that is busy. They then travel on the main road which has my little road off it and another one like it 100 yards down the road, a couple of factories along it and no more than 5 houses on the 5 mile stretch until you get to scumsville. Its hardly a metropolis.

If they do have to use sirens because of some health and safety bks why do all 6 need them on, each with their own different siren, why cant just the lead car use it? Last year early on Sunday morning at least 10 flew past at speed all using every available siren, the "emergency" was a fat pisspot woman had fallen in a brook about 6 inches deep and couldn't get out. Blue lights I can cope with, its the sirens that I find totally ridiculous.

Jesus fking Christ. I can't believe the mindset of some people.

Your attitude is everything that is wrong with this country. There are far too many inconsiderate, rude, and selfish people who go about their lives with not a care in the world for anyone else's problems.

Let's hope none of your friends and family ever need to use the emergency services at night, just so people can get their beauty sleep.

I thought of lots of reasons why the emergency services should use sirens as you describe as an inconvenience to you but have abandoned them

I think the most apt solution for you is to simply jab two sharpened pencils into your ears.

If they turn the sirens off they can still use the vehicles you know, its not like it disables the engine. So you are saying I have to be woken up every single night for the rest of my life because scum bags do what they want? It not always circa 11PM either sometimes its 3 or 4 in the morning.

I wouldn't mind but I have never called the emergency services in my life, its always the tts that don't contribute to it that monopolise it, no wonder they are bankrupt.

So the piss heads and knife scumbags aren't the selfish and inconsiderate ones then? Nice. Maybe if they locked them up for 10 years when they get arrested they would only need to "blue and two it" once every 10 years instead. I wouldn't mind, if you get burgled the police wont even come out it seems yet if bizzer and bozzer are fighting in the street the police cant wait to get down there for a ruck.

Because each car needs to give a warning. I see it daily where I am on blue lights following a car in front also on blue lights. Traffic see's the first car and pulls over allowing them to pass but then they pull back out without looking in their mirror. We use different sirens to try and combat this so drivers are aware there is more than one emergency service vehicle passing or approaching them.
