See my note above...... Only 5 days 'out of warranty' or was it? as parts have 5 year warranty. I will avoid Hoover in future.

Do you not have any warranty details?

My mum's washing machine just broke down just out of its standard warranty and despite being only 2 months into it's extended warranty it shat it's pants.

After 20 minutes arguing with a phone drone about getting it sorted as per how the policy was described on the sales call and how our actual experience was lacking, a few mentions of mis-selling and plastering the company's details all over facebook and various forums it was sorted a couple of hours later when a manager called me back.

Might be worth trying all that.

If anyone's interested I would definitely advise against buying a washing machine from a certain overpriced department store with the same name as a certain smarmy flash git with a dodgy spray tan off Dragon's Den.

Love the new Samsung one in found her, it's rather shiny, looks the b*ll*cks and my mum loves the little song it plays when it's finished taking the crusts out of your skivvys, also you can get about 5 fat birds worth of outfits in there in one go!

Argos are obviously not able to do anything without a receipt.
They do, I've taken back a couple of things after losing the receipt. All they do is give you a refund of the lowest price the item was sold for.

Was it their own make?

I was going to say it sounds alot like the company i work for. But then again if they resolved it after social media involvement then maybe not ^

How can Hoover say they "expect" it to be sold within eight weeks?

If Argos/Currys etc order 500 Toasters/Microwaves or whatever, the very last one could be on the warehouse/shop shelf 2 years later or more, and this could be the one you bought.

Very poor aftersales service from Hoover..........Watchdog?
this is very much not the case.... At least not for big outlets such as these, your local appliance high st store maybe have dusty stock left but they are a rarity now. Stock on the shelves just does not happen, if there were any after 2 years then this would have been written off long before that time and the buyer responsible would be on the dole. Given the low profit margins on appliances it is essential they don't hang around long. I am sometimes amazed at the relationship between production dates (usually built in to the serial number but not always an easy code to break)and the purchase date on the customers receipt that I come across as these are unbelievably short time scales especially considering where a lot of the stuff is made.

To be fair, as they did meet our terms in the end it wouldn't be fair to mention anything further online about the brand or exact product, morally I've probably said too much already.

I didn't actually end up going down the social media route as they got it sorted before that became necessary, not sure if that's their policy or if it was more down to the selling of the product.
